Just the other day I started playing with bomb droids. I bought a stack of 10 cheapo droids and started testing them on some low level mobs. I managed to figure out how to rename them. You have to run 4 different commands to them and they learn their name. Ok with that done I then started trying to blow them up without having to use a radial menu. One thing I noticed was that they say 3...2...1... and then they blow up. With that being said is it possible to remove or shorten this countdown and also are you the only player that sees the countdown timer or can others nearby see it as well? The countdown seems to last at least 5 seconds and that is plenty of time for your opponent to get some distance from it before it goes off. Not sure if the droid will continue to chase the target once the countdown begins?

No way to shorten the counter, and everyone can see it.

Well the ones I was testing on were only doing about 1k of dmg. Several droid engineer vendors on my server have been stocking them. These were just the cheapest ones I could get just for testing with. I found a lot more that could do 1.5k+ of dmg.

Will the droid still chase/follow them even after the countdown has begun. All my testing targets were stationary so I couldnt tell if this would happen or not.

Are they labeled "Bomb droids" or must bounty hunters"modify" them through a radial menu?

I had to rename mine before working with then. That way I didnt have to use radials to control them. You just need to program them like this:

Right click and tell it to follow. Then a ? will appear over its head. You then type follow toaster or whatever you wana call it. Then you do that same thing with 3 other commands and it will be named (toaster). From that point you can then make macros to make it do the things you want rather than using the radial. The downside to my testing was that I fuond that you have to still have it targeted to do the detonation command. So what I did was

Have a target selected and run the following. This works as long as your droids name is toaster.

/tellpet chase;
/tar (toaster);
/det

that would start my countdown. My biggest concern though is that countdown. I just need to find out if the droid will still chase the target after the count begins or if it sits still.

I use them all the time. I use 49 det power and 53 det power (best on my server). They are nameds R3 adv.... like any normal droid. Best way to use them is to have a MEZ/Daze (concussion shot or paralize). Work well when you jump a jedi. I find the mark, stalk it for a long time and wait untill it has little or no buffs on. I firearmstrike it (for KD) paralize thejedi so he can't get back up and set the bomb to blow. Right before the droid blows I hit an Adv Crit shot and the jedi is almost incaped after that. The droid does 800-1.2k damage to a none KD'ed jedi and 1k-1.6k damage. I did most of my testing on a MSL/Mdefender jedi for most inate defense. They work well and add a nice bit of extra damage, just don't use themon Jedi with a lot of mobs around them or you'll get all those mobs on you since they are AoE. This works great when takeing out 200k+ jedi. Only problem is jedi have gotten wise, when I come after them they duel a buddy, this stops me from useing a mez as when the target takes damage the mez breaks.

I also use a pistol, the gun is great but only good shot you can do is Adv. Crit since body shot sucks compaired to headshot or legshot. If you are a rifleman or carbineer with either concussion shot or paralize you should be able to kill them even easier. My pistol is 1058 pup'ed 1.87 speed and 75 SAC none mod'ed speed HCS.

Read Emalrds post, this is a great tatic, place your droid within calling distance, then I hit the Jedi with a kd, adv critical then concussion. At this point i have 40secs to pee, get a glass of wine, read a book, whatever. I then send in my droid set it to detonate and right as it say 1 I do antoher adv crit followed by concussion. If the Jedi is stills tanding I can retreat and figure a new plan, if not I move in for the DB.

There have been recent changes to droid crafting such that (I believe) with a lvl 6 armor module, the droid has substantial HAM. Bomb droids with max detonation modules AND max HAM could be very effective as it's hard for the Jedi to destroy them during the detonation period.

Contact your local DE for a crate of bomb droids with max armor.

Just had a few questions bout that set of commands. Has anyone else had problems getting that to work at range? I've renamed my droids but the /tellpet thing doesnt ever seem to want to work these days. Not on my BH or my Smuggler. And there is most definately times when it would be handy.

From the sound of Ajianna's post it appears that droids still chase a target while the detonation clock is counting down. Can anyone verify this?

yes, they still chase the target as it is counting down. However they are slow, but have about a 30m range. If the jedi wants he can 1 shot the droids right now (or ones I have) since I think they have 10 HAM, lol.
