Thread: Soloing...dead and buried?
As I posted once in this forum before, I am a MBH recently returned from a 6/7 month hiatus. I pretty much missed the advent of the CU and, as a consequence, I have VERY little idea what the heck I'm doing on the ground these days (having spent the bulk of most of my time before my absence in space).

Greetings.

I pretty much missed the advent of the CU and, as a consequence, I have VERY little idea what the heck I'm doing on the ground these days (having spent the bulk of most of my time before my absence in space).
I read through the guides posted above, and, coupled with my recent very disappointing experiences in-game, I have only one thing to ask:
Is ground soloing for XP completely dead in this game?
Short story time. I knew I would be, for want of a better word, "rusty", when I got back into things, so I decided to just take some missions out of my city to familiarize myself with the way things worked now. Well, every mission I was given, I'd head out, confront level 55 (grey) mobs, get 1 pt of experience for each, then come back. GREY mission targets? Mission terms won't give out any missions that will actually garner me experience these days?
So I went for harder fare on Dathomir. I went out, found some level 75 mob...and died. Repeatedly.
Am I just doing something wrong, or is soloing well and truly defunct now with the advent of the CU and subsequent patches? Please, if you do solo (for XP) on a regular basis, post here with your impressions and recommendations. Please aid a long-lost brother in regaining his confidence in battle.
Yours,

yea its kinda lame, Pre -CU i soloed TKA and most of BH. now i waslucky to pull down enough xp to solo what little of carbineer i wanted to pickup. On the up side if you get a good group together you can pull enough XP to grind out an elite prof in acouple of weeks if you have the time.
*sigh* Very disappointing. ![]()
I've always been a soloer. Not because I was uber (because I wasn't), but because I liked not having to rely on anyone else (or having someone else rely on me). I wasn't one of those who could solo Krayts (or whatever ridiculous things those people were soloing at the time), but I enjoyed running simple missions out of the city for XP/cash.
How sad that SOE has forsaken an entire popular mode of play for the sake of "get a big group together and kill 'em!"
I HAD hoped I'd be able to continue on the path to Jedi (I was glowing before I left)...but if I'm forced to group whenever I want XP...I'll probably end up retiring somewhere in space. :/
Thanks for the heads up.

I think the decision to make an emphasis on grouping was sound. After all, it's a Massively MULTIPLAYER Online RPG. Pre-CU, it was basically massively singleplayer.
Emphasizing grouping is one thing. Completely alienating soloists is another.
Multiplayer just means you should INTERRACT with other players...which I did. I may have been a soloist when it came to grinding XP (which is not to say I never grouped...I just prefered solo when grinding). But I was far from being an isolationist. I had a lot of people I was glad to call friend. Most of them don't show up on my friends list as online anymore. :/
Do not get me wrong. I am not AGAINST grouping. Great groups can be a wonderful thing for every activity in the game. I just find this total disregard for those of us who enjoy soloing distasteful.
I suppose I should have taken my brother up on that WOW invite afterall. :/

Well you can still solo, but just expect to take 7 years to finish a Jedi template ![]()
Actually with all the groups running out of cantinas and out of Agro and Mining Outpost, it should be easy to get into a group...Since everyone has to do it now therefore everyone is more willing to work together. Its actually easier to grind Jedi post-CU with all the grouping (despite vis issues) then it was pre-CU (which a lot of ppl dont like because we get the immature noob respec Jedi...)
Another question, for those of you that DO solo: What equipment do you use?
I bought a good weapon upon my return (my adjustedDPS is about 550 with it, I think...not sure if that's considered "good"). I have (I THINK) a decent set of armor. I'm not sure what "decent" is for armor these days either. I DO know I can't afford to spend the 800k per set that seems to be the average price on my server.
I know Doctor buffs have pretty much waned, and mind isn't as important as it once was (but still important).
Do you use certain foods? I know there's the whole slow/root/kd method...but what do you do when you have 2-3 enemies at once? Or ranged enemies?
I've got so much to re-learn. Not just for solo, as it seems my preferred way of grinding is severely handicapped now, but for groups as well. I don't want to be the weak link. What's your advice?
