i prefer carbs because you dont seem to get the penalty you get with rifles from shooting at close range. plus with carbs 0400 you get a good high damage special and a snare with the added accuracy line.
so for a combat medic carbs or pistols because you need to be in close to apply your debuffs IMO, but theres lots of riflemen out there doing well too so i think it depends on your playing style.
i go in debuf and dot and then move back to about 15m and just duke it out relying on my CM to out heal theri damage.

Pistol 0/0/0/4 for "ROOT"
You have to get close to aply debuffs, the pistol is quick and deadly. A strong Scatter in both Kinetic and Energy. Works great!

Go with the carb not the pistol. With MBH and MCM you can only get one line of a ranged proffession. Carbs 0400 gets you a high damage special and a ranged snare. Plus you get +50 general ranged accuracy that can be used with any weapon. You are best off using a carb because you will be changing your distance around. Pistol are not a good choice because you will stuck within their saber throw range, and rifles are not good because that are really bad at 10m. Man thing you need to remember is to attack from ranged first and as the rush then debuff. Do not run in and debuff then kite out. Get as much damage on them then as then rush in get to 10m paralyze debuff then kite out Dotting them and staying outside 35m. If you really want a pistol line avoid the 0004 temptation and get 4000 or at least 2000 for warning shot.

I chose rifles, not sure why. I have a very nice laser rifle that hits hard. Many times though I switch to my scatter unless I'm able to get a running start after applying debuffs. It's nice to be able to attack out of saber throw range.
