Finally finished the invest tree yesterday... wrapped up the last 80k pistol xp this morning... picked up a jedi bounty this afternoon. Man this day just keeps getting better.

Little personal history- was 3(9k)/3/2/3 when the invest patch hit. (well, the only part I'm 100% on is the invest xp, but the other skills were right around there) On what was SUPPOSED to be my last mission, got a little excited and started sending /tells to my friendssaying, "Two and a halfmonths of workis almost over!"

Find my "last" mark, do my business... loot the corpse... think to myself, "Now why hasn't the system told me I qualified for invest IV yet?" ctrl+s...only tofind out that I have 17999 invest xp. (and yes, I took a screenshot... will post the thread when I get a chance to get to imagedump) Spend the next twenty minutes trying to explain this to all the friends I sent /tells too...

/sigh

Atleast the real last missionWAS the last one...

Long story longer, let it be know that Eclipse nowhas another Master Bounty Hunter...

Jedi, BEWARE!!!... or slightly intimidated... oh, come on! atleast act like your scared...

As I have done so often, I sit in my home office waiting for the servers to load, I look around and notice the vast amount of game cd's and manuals that clutter the shelves. These range from simulations, action games, strategy and role-playing games (and yes, Myst appears in my vision). What one thing all these have in common: I am not playing these any longer because I have reached the END GAME. You all know what that is - the point where you finish all the game has to offer. Boredom now sets in, no challenge left to be met - the game is over. Some take quite a bit of time to reach this point, others a matter of hours. However, they all have reached the same point - finished.

What does this have to do with SWG (particularly jedi, since this is the forum for jedi) you may ask? The thing that has set SWG apart from these static games, as well as other MMORPGs is that there has always been something more to accomplish. Whether it be mastering an elite profession, crafting some of the very best products in your galaxy, or attaining jedi full template, there has always been something more to reach for.

Herein lies the crux of my thoughts. First, what an enormous undertaking for those who work to present such an experience for the course of more than 2 years. Yes, I am sure they are paid well. However, what other single gaming experience has such a record? I am not talking purely longevity, but still having something more to attain - having the elusive END GAME nowhere in sight.

Second, with the changes that have been made over the course of this game, all were (I believe) intended to do precisely that - keep the END GAME out of reach. This is not done purely for business purposes, as many think (though I would be a fool for thinking it does not have any bearing). I believe those involved understand us better than we do at times, knowing our desire for a challenge, wanting more.

With the CU and the enormous xp change allowing professions to be mastered in hours rather than days/weeks/months, the END GAME started to come into focus. I think (and yes, this is just my opinion) this bears directly on patch 22, so that the END GAME again becomes elusive enough to challenge us. We may cry about the changes, be tormented because a power gamer attains what we casual gamers cannot in the same amount of time, but if we reach the END GAME, the experience ends, as it has with all those other games on the shelves.

Reaching a full templated jedi should be a difficult path for exactly this reason, to provide us a challenge. Yet this still is a game, lest we ever forget, and should provide us enjoyment overall. If it does not and we continue to play, then there is certainly something wrong with us rather than the game. Yes, the bugs are frustrating, Yes, the exploiters and cheaters drive us to madness. If they become too overwhelming, do something else. Remember that this is a choice - we choose to pay and play, or not to pay and play.

I hope the END GAME does not come for me in this experience. That is why I continue to pay and play. When it does, I will stop. Until that time, I will experience all the bugs, fixes, server ups and downs, patch changes, stealth nerfs, and everything else the game offers.

Well said

In short... pacing yourself is the answer. Also, imagine if you started playing as of today... would there be anything wrong with the game "for you"... no. A true jedi doesnt dwell on the past.

Jedi does not have to be the endgame, nor should it. This game gives the devs and the players many posibilities for an endgame. The biggest one is the GCW. Once you are done grinding you proffesion you could be active in the GCW. The problem is, there is no GCW in the game. There is nothing to fight for. Give the players something to fight over and they will have fun. There are other posibilities like this sith vs jedi, smuggler vs Bounty Hunters. There are lots of posibilities, but the devs do not see them. Instead they make the grinding even longer.

Grinding is not fun, it is not entertaining and sure as hell is not content. If it takes 6 days to grind a proffesion the I say that is more then enough. The grinding should not be the game. Enjoying your proffesion should. And if you don't like your proffesion, just take another one. Now, some will say that you should enjoy the way to becoming master, but the problem is in this game you are nothing unless you are a master. You can whatch a new entertainer, but it wil take longer, you can buy food from a new chef, but it wont be as good as from amaster. So people will buy what is best, and that comes from a master.

I agree that jedi since it is supposed to be better then other proffesions it should be harder to get. But harder does not meen more grinding. Grinding is not hard, it is hitting the same creature over and over again. Hard is having to solve puzzles and do quests. That is content. That is entertaining. That is fun.

The devs have decided, as they always do, to take itthe easy way. Make them grind longer and they will stay longer, or so they think. What they do not realise is that we had to grind through the village, and we got tired of grinding, we have to grind through jedi, but that grind is even worse because of the visability. No PvP, no NPC, no loot. Just the creatures over and over. And now they make ALL grinding last even longer. May I repeat what I said earlier?

Grinding is not fun, it is not entertaining and sure as hell is not content.

Hmm Nice post. Loved it. Also to add maybe.

Look at it this way, GCW is also being fixed they say, and the FRS is being fixed they say. Hmmmm Maybe they are ramping up to have a huge amount of Jedi for the FRS which would make the battles INTENSE to watch. We would have Dark Jedi vs. Light Jedi fighting each other all over the place RAD idea..Cant wait.. ALso GCW building up to this plus the FRS in place MAN can you imagine the battles we will be expieriencing..!! THATS STARWARS in my eyes.. it brings me back in time to the Sith wars..which is pretty much what it will be. Tons of Sith Dark Jedi fighting each other and Light Jedi to get to the top.. Awe inspiring I would say.

Now of course it's all on how you see the game do you see it as OMG theres to many or do you just play the game given and say Dang thats sucks about that patch but oh well it may get better or worse in next few months again and carry on looking toward the furture and what it COULD be bringing you as gameplay excitement.. I know itas alot to ask for everyone to hold off and wait for the GCW and FRS but it could be pretty col when it does come out..
