Thread: Cooldown time versus weapon speed

After reading all the posts about cooldown timer exploits/bypassing it brought to mind some general questions about the intended cooldown speed and weapon speed mechanics.

From what I can see when you hit anything on yourtoolbar (attack, heal, etc)it causes all the existing hotkeys to cooldown, albeit for a second or what not.

If you hit, say UnderhandShot and ittakes say 3 secs to cooldown and all your hotkeys are cooling down for 1 sec, how is it that if you have Auto Attack on for Ranged Shot and a weapons speed of say .90 that it would even shoot once per second if all the hotkeys are cooling down?

Am I making sense?

No theories or info from the hardcore game mechanics folks? Or does the question make no sense and I need to lay off the JB/Coke?

I'd like to know the deal of this "exploit" as well. Never seen it, just hear everyone complaining about getting hit multiple times very fast.

I'm not tryingto discuss the cooldown exploit, I am wondering how Autofire can fire as fast as a weapon that can fire faster than once per second (.90) if the Ranged Attack causes all hotkeys to cooldown for 1-2 seconds...

I'm not entirely sure what you are asking here....

There are different cool down timers for different specials/attacks. I know these arne't the correct numbers, but let's assume they are for the exmaple:

Default Attack : 1 sec

Head Shot:3 sec

Adv Criticl:3 sec

Ranged Shot: 1.5 sec

Underhand:2 sec

The system was designed so that while one shot is cooling down, you can use another one, albeit of different power. To fire EVERY second is mathematically possible, but with varying strength shots as follows:

Second 1: Underhand Shot - 400dmg - Knockdown

Second 2: Adv Critical - 800dmg

Second 3: Default - 300dmg

Second 4: Ranged Shot - 400dmg

Second 5: Head Shot - 700dmg

Seocnd 6: etc... until you run out of action

When ordered properly, you can fire off shots as fast your indivdual weapon/profession speeds allow despite the varying cooldown timers. This is hugely apparent when you use sniper shot. The cooldown on that shot seems like between 7 and 10 seconds. While it's cool down, you can fire additional shots as outlined above then crack off another sniper as soon as the it's ready.

Theissue everyone is so upset about is that it's possible, through an exploit, to fire the SAME shot every second.

Is that what you're asking?

I understand what he's asking but dont have the answer. When you take a shot, that shot has a cooldown timer......but all ur other actions on ur UI darken and show a cooldown as well, like 1 sec worth.

*ding*!!!!!!

I think that's the answer......you can't fire faster cause any speed under 1 is useless???? Is this right? Hopefully someone can confirm for the OP.

Yep that's what I am trying to touch on. Specifically though, I understand that you can time each shot to fire in order (if not interupted by a heal or KD, etc) once per second, except if you use Ranged Attack.

But...you would technically need a weapon that can fire every second or faster? If your weapon speed is 1.5 or 2.5 then you can't time those specials in order right?

Lastly, if you have have AutoFire activated on the special Ranged Shot (this causes a cooldown on all hotkeys specials for 2 seconds I am now seeing in my logs) that means your weapon is not really firing at the speed it can because the regular attack shot (I have always thought Ranged Attack is the default firing shot as if you double clicked on a target) cannot fire faster than 2 seconds due to cooldown.

So AutoAttack with the default RangedShot attack doesnot work as advertised and because it makes a blanket cooldown on all timers, interupts heals and other specials andis one of the worst attacks to use even though it supposed to be the most basic and rely on the weapon's speed for how fast it should fire.

That cool down that is applied to all the abilities you didn't use, is supposed to be equal to your weapons modified speed. However, I know that with my Lightsaber (due to the Lightsaber speed bug) that the general cool down is about 3 times longer than my modified speed.
