Thread: New Jedi system
yeah personally i grinded out 30 of the 32 professions and ran out of time when pub 10 hit if i had the time i personally would have grinded out all 32 of them i started this game to become jedi,im a HUGE star wars fan,i read about 70 of the books, seen all the movies ect.
bought gcube and xbox just so i could play the star wars games,i loved the holo system it was awesome i have experienced every profession in this game (almost) in my opinion having a 12 step guide to become jedi is like having a 12 step AA program, the road and path to jedi should be different for everyone, implementing hologrinding and the villiage together would be amazing perhaps make it a bit more mysterious then a 1-12 step ordeal it takes the fun out of it.
also the respec was an awesome idea, next time though lets NOT leave a way for the newer breed of jedi to cheat their way to a completed template,i ground my butt off only to have a jedi i knew unlock 2 days before CU hit to freaking be ALMOST done 3 weeks later.that alone damn near made me want to quit.
What about a padawan system, where you have to be trained by an already jedi but they can onley train 1 padawan at a time they have to be a jedi knight or higher and /perma death ON.
I agree that a new Jedi system is needed. It pains me both to see every man and his pet bantha swinging a saber. But also, to balance the system, Jedi are going to get a major nerf as a result. Something else I dislike.
I've taken a few ideas I've seen, and patched them with some of my own. I'll let you have a read of them, and some of my reasoning. See what your opinions are...
1) Firstly, make Jedi quest driven in addition to heavy grind. Have a large number (and I mean large)of difficultquests (Some of them solo-only). At start up, a charecters "Jedi path" is made by randomly linking many of these quests. This should stop people learning how to get Jedi in a few minutes on the forums. Also make it so that the quests are not obviously linked, but require a bit of luck, and searching from the player. (Ie, finding the location of your next NPC)
2) Create a number of "legendary" professions. (Such as legendary brawler, marksman etc..). These would involve a heavy grind, similar to the current Jedi system. About the strength of current Jedi. It would provide an alternative to those who wanted to "do something" in SWG, without going Jedi.
- - - A main problem with this system, is what to do with the existing Jedi. I've yet to hear anything acceptable (some ranging from deleting them all, to nerfing them). Instead, I propose a "Semi-fix" for this problem. - - -
3) Current Jedi become known as "Rogue Force Users". Those who have learnt to use the force, but without the formal training of the Jedi. Keep their strength at about the same as now. These force-users have the right to either train for full Jedi (skipping a few quests as reward for their grind), remaining as a Rogue Force-user, or changing to a different Legendary template.
4) Make the Full Jedi's as a PVP profession.Prior toturning Jedi, the player is warned that risk of PVP combat is highly likely. Make these Jedi stronger than any of the other professions (including legendary). Also include aspects such asbecoming 'special forces'upon use of saber/powers.
5) To keep things settled with the Bounty Hunters, the rogue force users will remain as huntable. But, for a future publish (once Full Jedi begin appearing), they will either be removed from the terminals, or payments considerably downgraded. Full Jedi get heavily hunted by Bounty Hunters.
6) Visability for a Full Jedi gets a considerable increase. So that they are constantly fighting BH to stay out of the cloning centre. As a trade for this, make Jedi get an XP bonus when hunting solo. For example,3 times the xp as when in a group. (Perhaps 4x if hunting with another Jedi, a master-apprentice type thing)
- - - Pros - - -
Becoming Jedi is now not only long, but difficult as well. In addition to being different toeveryone elses. So no longer can a person read a post on the forums, and thenunlock Jedi by the end of the evening.
Jedi get the strength they deserve
Jedi also have a difficult, dangerous life by definition. With the warning, people cannotfeasibly complain because they get attacked by BH. It would be the same as a crafter coming on, complaining he couldnt solo a Kryat.
Their is an alternative to Jedi!
With the inclusion of a respec,"Rogue Force Users" -numbers should show an instant drop. With further decreases over time.
- - - Cons - - -
This is a nightmare for the devs. To make the system work correctly, it would probably need more work than they have put in (total)since the game was lauched. This alone is probably enough toprevent the idea ever being used.
Care will need to be taken to prevent "legendary" professions becoming a requisite. Make sure they only have a moderate increase in strength over elite, so that newer players do not feel the need to grind instantly.
Possibility exists that over time, many people will end up as Jedi anyway... Personally, I cant predict whether the "pull" of the force will be enough to overwhelm the work of getting Jedi, and threat of PvP while being Jedi.
I'm willing to hear any suggestions, improvements or just general praise

im so tired of this argument, obtaining jedi should be mysterious and NOT KNOWN, the 1-12 step idea was amwesome on paper but in reality it failed and fell short,i love how people cry about the village but most went through it to obtain jedi,I grinded 30/32 profs to get my shiz.
i also love how people cry permadeath, but when the tables are flipped and i say well if its perma death for jedi then its perma death for ALL profs why segregate just us.
and i also love how NO ONE shares my sentiment on that freaking respec trick that was allowed to have you go from brand new jedi to full template in 3 weeks.
until you have a jedi and have ground him old school way,on voritors alone for countless hours then come back and cry permadeath,I didnt have the geno caves,i didnt use the warren i ground it out the right way and it sucked it was boring and it sucked, permadeath my arse.we're the only profession that has had THIS many nerfs and tinkering with get it right and leave us alone and stop nerfing our healing, stop nerfing our moves so that a non MLS can do the same damage as me.just set it right and leave us be.
