Thread: Swordsman or Fencer?

I'm gonna have to say both.

I know thats no help at all. Seriously though I would go with swordman. The damage is better, the defenses arent as good but with buffs you can counterbalance it.

I picked up fencer shortly after swords and noticed a HUGE difference in defenses, but with swords only I was pretty tuff PVE. Since they have given back specials to Nightsisters (and everything for that matter) killing them quickly is better IMO, and with the right foods u can recreate the extra defenses.

Hope that helps some.

Fencers can't damage elders! Go Swordsman, get a acklay power hammer and invest in some skill tape to max yourself out. Then you will do 7k Damage per second. Only jedi and rifleman will even think about hanging and neither of those can tank well.

Swordsman

Swordsman

Swordsman

BTW Swordsman is pretty lame in PvP because of the lack of defences.

Well what I am doing right now is master swordsman and going into the defense tree's of fencer this way ill have the best of both worlds. If you dont wanna do that for some odd reason. Then you should master swordsman get 2-handed speed aa's/ca's melee and ranged aa's/ca's and have a good bit of food and drink. But going pure speed and damge with swordsman is very hard on the bank with 2-handed speed attachments being 500k-1mil per point and damge being very hard to find higher then a +5. Defense aa's and ca's are pretty high priced as well and very hard to find above a +5. So if you got more credits then time or open skill points then buy all that good stuff. If you got the extra skill points and a day go with both. Or even if you have the credits but still have the extra skill points do it all.

Greetings! I'm currently a Master Swordsman. However, I am tempted to respec over to Master Fencer before my chance to respec ends.. I'm a more defensive player and I tend to fight in groups or 2-3 or sometimes more people. I don't PvP at all except for when taking down SF bases, and then I try to let others do the fighting and I usually provide a distraction or take out any NPC enemies in the way so my question is...

Which profession am I more suited towards? Swordsman or Fencer?

In many ways Swordsman and Fencer are very similar.

You'll not notice much of a defensive change if you become a swordsman or a fencer. Fencer is not the defence based profession that it used to be.

I've heard plenty of good reason why Fencer is better for PvP but since you don't PvP it doesn't matter much.

All a matter of style I'll say.

if you're not interested in pvp, i don't recommend taking up fencer - all the specials aside from blind are pretty much useless in PVE. Swordsman is a very good prof to base your template around, i don't think you need to drop it.

if you're primarily pve'ing, i'd suggest dabbling (or mastering TKM) - at least get advanced CoB - and try ADDING somepikeman to your swordsman toon. warcry and intimidate are cool, as are the area specials.

Pike is also good on it's own, but trading sword for pike won't really give you any extreme advantage. however, stacking them will be nice

Well I'm not interested in an ultimate template. Honestly my only debate is Swordsman or Fencer, I have no interested or intention of changing, getting or altering anything else in my template at all. I respecced to fencer nad so far have enjoyed it, but I'm still undecided

I was Master Fencer for along while. (I had to do it for a Holo Profession.)

Thought I'd hate it, but I loved it.

Then CU. Now it's NOTHING like it used to be (well, i know nothing is, but still...)

I respec'd to Master Swordsman & will keep that mainly b/c of the higher Offense & Defense it offers compared to Fencer.

I don't PvP, and usually solo (as much as I can anymore) so I need high O&D.

Well I went fencer, I just enjoy it more, and to hell with the death and cloning and cybernetic arms! I'm playing a prof that makes me ENJOY the game darn it! Thanks for the encouragement for both professions guys.

I thought advanced lunge and improved cripple attack were pretty good!?

yeah, advanced lunge and improved cripple are great for PvP - but near useless in PvE.

advanced lunge just does more damage - doesn't extend the range beyond 10m. Improved cripple snares your opponent to walking speed - this is great for catching Kiter's - but damn near useless in pve.

enjoy!

good to hear. If not for any other reason fencer is nice because of all the little extra weapons that have been found in RotW. That's what SWG needs for everyone, a few more options.
