Ok, it's kind of weird but this is how it works.

Elemental adds on to your base min and max damage. So, yes, it is in your DPS calculation.

However, special attack modifiers are not applied to elemental damage. So, no matter what type of shot you use, the elemental goes through, before armor, as the number stated on the weapon.
