Thread: Edge of map, in the water, mission incomplete
ill tell you how to avoid this and those that have an understanding of the way the servers interoperate should get it.
when you get a mark on a planet fly into a starport thats not directly near any water. youll have a waypoint. if its not in or near water, then great. launch a seeker and go get it.
if you pull up your map and its in a large body of water, set off a seeker and wait. the mark will stay in the water the whole duration of the seeker. no problem, wait for it to expire. next seeker you launch the mark will have its movement progress calculated and it will be out of the water by now. the second seeker should also have its waypoint update with every refresh now. go get your mark.
this works fine when the initial waypoint is in a body of water and far enough away from your initial landing point.
sure you have to wait for the first seeker to expire, but it beats restarting entirely and you can usually find something else to do to kill the two minutes in the immediate area.
enjoy

i don't think workarounds are acceptable in this state (aka everybody leaving) of the game.
instead of making 50 spots as one suggested, you could alsomark rectangular regions (a rectangle=4 sets of coordinates) of one planet as mark-friendly and spawn all the marks inside one of these regions. ie. the code would generate the waypoint (as you send out the seeker, or as it returns, whatever) and check if it's within the acceptable ranges (check against the rectangles) and if not, simply generate another waypoint and so on. it's really a few ("few" being lesser than 3) hours of work TOPS.
i get the technology limitation issue but it doesn't mean you can't add a safeguard around it.
Hey bud.. its good to see you still around, when are you going to give up and come join me and the rest of the devvies on Chilastra

Hey, KStar, Mr. Star Wars correspondent! Hope all is well with you...
I actually am on Chilastra, got a house near the old Saturday morning Beta One stomping grounds outside Bestine. Those were the days... ![]()
I'm unfortunately not on much -- been so busy the past two years that I actually played more in Beta than I do now! But it's all good -- maybe send a PM or e-mail me in-game. Name's Kleet Maffit.
What I see when it comes to BH missions is that development could take a page or two from the way Mission Lairs spawn.
I have never had a mission lair spawn in water. I have had a waypoint to a mission lair spawn on top of water, and when I got close it updated, again over water, and when I got close the third time, the waypoint and the lair were over dry land.
- Around Publish 5 an, about, 3-5 minutetimerwas added to NPC bounty missions. This timer starts counting as soon as you get the planet from your probe droid. IF you can make it to that planet and to that wp within, again, about 3-5 mins your mark WILLbe there. During this time your mark is still "moving" to the system and will update accordingly if you don't get there. Hence the: My mark jumped 4k away and I was 300m from the way-point "bug". I have seen/had marks start moving in a little as 3 mins and some take aslong as 15 minutes. This timer was added because NPC marks use to start moving as soon as you got the planet from your probe droid. Back in the day of 10 minute shuttle/star-port waits many, many marks where getting off planet before the bounty hunter could ever get there.
- Never let your mark jump planet. In 2 years of bounty hunting I've never had a mark actually be on the next planet.
- If your mark is over water all you can do is wait. Getting within 500m will make the way-point stop updating 9 out of 10times and getting within 100m will fail the mission.
- I've gotten pretty good at placing myself "in front" of my mark and letting them come to me. Sometimes to my dismay when the way-point updates to 30m away from me, but the mark never spawns. Always give your mark room to "run".
- When your marks stuck inside something your pretty much SOE err SOL. Pre-CU you use to be able to AoE attack something near by to agro it and get it out. With LoS added in the CU AoE attacks now don't hit things you can't see, nor do they pass thur walls as they use to pre-cu. With the pet agro fix for CH you can't send in a droid or pet to draw them out either. The only way I've gotten marks unstuck was to get CS to come walk them out for me, even had a CSR fight me with my mark afterfreeingit. But Aristos SWG CS suxors. Na, not really, everytime I've asked CS to help they've answered within 10 mins. How do I get such fast response? In my ticket I send it in under: I'm stuck performing an action. I make sure to include: my toons name, what planet I'm on, my way-point, my marks name and way-point, the closest starport. While most times CS comes right out to help I have had a few tell me I sent the ticket in under the wrong catagory and to re-send it under missions interactive NPC's. Either way they've always come out and freed my mark.
I'm sure theres other tips I could give but thats all I have for the moment.
salvestrom wrote:I haven't read the whole thread. Sorry if this has been posted. It is extremely easy to avoid failing these missions, where mobs are in deep water or off the map. When you land on the planet, check the planetary map. If the mob is off the edge, near the edge or in water, simply don't go to it. Wait 2-3 minutes, possibly longer and then send out the droid. By then the mob will have started moving. Make sure the waypoint is in the clear before getting too close and you'll be fine.
QFE I learned after 3 missions taken from Kaadara where the mark was on Naboo to not go near him until he had moved to dry land.
That seems to be the key, why not limit the usable locations in the worlds to a narrower region, to at least avoid the map edge issue, if not the other issues, at least part of it will be mitigated? Any game issue that has us watching TV or going AFK is not a good game issue. Not sure where I'd prioritize this, since I'm not a big fan of the overimportance of BH's in the SWG GCW context, even though this toon is a BH. Still, for a profession of SWG, it is a rather significant issue from that profession's sole perspective. How much can we focus on each profession in the greater scheme of development issues? I don't know. Rather deal with GCW and battle venues geared towards 5v5 or greater content, so we can get out of dueling and single red dot chasing we're stuck with today... I don't know...

I'm trying to be understanding, but I can honestly see no reason why this shouldn't be an easy fix.![]()
FWIW, it's not an easy fix because of the way multi-server technology works andthe way the system identifies a usable location in the world. Also, a code formula doesn't see water. It just sees a number. I understand that isn't much consolation thoughBlix has tightened up the system as much as possible to reduceas much of this as he could.
When I get these, I just chalk up to a smart mark losing his scent in the water.

Excellent thinking , if we could all come up with lame roleplaying excuses for bugs i'm sure the world would be a much better place.
Its actually not a bug. It is a limitation of the technology.
