I learned suppression fire's value last night, as I ventured into the depths of the Ryatt Trail for the first time. From the Webweaver level I went solo to the Shadowlands. I could not fight my way through all the feral wookiees, so I ran through and used suppression fire constantly to keep distance between me and the MOBs. Worked like a charm when spammed repeatedly I was able to put 30-45 m between me and all the baddies in a matter of a few seconds. They all lose interest once you make it to the Trail guide on that level
Two things it would be good to know.
1) If your running like mad in one directions how do yu target something that is aggroing you from behind.
2) Does suppression shot only suppress those who are aggroing you or does it cause more aggro?
Anyone?
Suppression Fire is pretty much a 2 second Mez...Advanced is 5 I believe.
Would it be 5, i would consider it quite useful... currently it is working as intended and for my personal taste is not effective enough.
However, on my Master Commando/Master Smuggler/0430 Carbineer Suppression Fire + Rocket Launcher = My best friend when the Snares break Force Run....

That part can be a bit tricky, depending on how you control your character. If you use the arrow keys or the "WASD" setup, you can make your character run "towards the screen", so you are still looking into the direction of the target. In this case, just target as you are used to.
If you are set to some camera chase mode, this is no option. Here the only trick i currently know is to klick into nothing to clear your target. If you have no target selected, the next enemy attacking you automaticalls is selected as your target.
When hunted by ranged enemies, this might be unsatisfactory, when hunted by melee enemies it is a reliably way to target them.

Despite doing little damage, it is a fully active area attack. Anything attackable within the area of effect will be attacked and thus will be agro on you. So, depending on the area you are, expect to drag complete armies behind you when using it.

I play in first person mode, but I was curious to see how this actually worked on multiple MOBs chasing you. So I targetted a creature and hit suppression fire to draw all aggro around it and ran away. As the creatures follwed me, I zoomed out to see what was going on, but kept running in the same direction. (I use my mouse for directional control and use num lock to keep moving). My character actually runs in the direction I set him moving and turns at his torso, pointing my carbine behind me at the pursuing critters, and firing the AOE cone behind me around the critter I had targetted.
The bottom line here seems to be no matter what direction you are moving, an AoE attack will fire a cone around the enemy you have targetted. This means that if I am running away, only creatures in that cone get hit and aggro to you. Suppression fire is an excellent retreat ability!
