not sure about the counter being visible to anyone. Bomb droids can be usefull anywhere. If you are fighting a jedi send the bomb droid in to do the first hit then follow with your attacks. you can also use them to take down a group. Anything that you can attack that is within a 10m(i think it is 10) radius of the droid will be hit with the blast.
