So, begins...the HL2 vs Halo 2 debate...*bum bum buuuummmm!*
The moment when you discover the flood is a moment in gaming history. In HL-2 when I first went up against the bladed hovering buzz thingies, they didn't scare the living...stuff...out of me, they just annoyed me.
The Flood...they proved interesting. In fact, in the guilty spark level...the ending was a sheer thrill. I hauled my butt out of there and was greeted by a full marine squad...was happy that the nightmare was over (the library...was a nightmare for me). Well I was wrong!
As soon as we got back into the outside jungle, the screams began as the flood attacked us. I just ran like there was no tomarrow trying to find my way out. Armed with my shotgun, I just blew a path open through the place, as my radar was sprouting red dots everywhere (reminded me of Fort Tusken at launch!)...marines were dieing all around me, a few followed me but got jumped by the flood. At last I made it to safety and left the huge crowd of flood behind me...
It was thrilling...it was confusing...it was also a little scary. But it was fun!
Half-life 2 was fun, but I just had more moments in Halo.
Edit: Yeah RvB rocks

You had to run? I remeber blowing away every single little pod and having onyl 1 marine die.

Half Life 2 and Halo 2 are both amazing games, picking one that is "better" is nearly impossible. For unique gameplay, Half Life 2 is clearly the victor. Using the Ant Lions as your troops, positioning a way throught the sand with the grav gun, graphics all go to Half-Life 2. Richer story goes to Halo 2 by a slight margin. Whereas Half Life gave you some background, HL2 just kinda drops you in. I "get" the story, that essentially the rift caused in HL1 allowed the Combine to invade...but that's never explained in any detail, and if you didn't play Half Life, you wouldn't "get" the character.
Halo 2 has a lot better multiplayer action, a tight control scheme (keyboards + mouse are nice, but Halo 2's customizable senstativity makes it very personal and responsive) and a good story that makes sense. Your characters are developed in FMV, which gives you a great connection to them. We never see or hear Freeman, which is great for being immersed in the game, but which bars the possibility of character development. Gordon never "grows" as a character. We learn a lot about the Arbiter, Master Chief and Cortana, which gives us a much better plot.
Half Life 2 feels disjointed from the original, which may be the intension, but it also makes for a stilted story. Halo transitions much better.
and the biggest thing about Halo is that it is accesible to more people. To run Half Life 2 looking good, you NEED a serious rig. To run Halo, all you need is a 150 console. Accesability goes a long way.
In the end, Half Life and Halo are both amazing games that excel in the areas that they focus on. Halo is about a good story with character development and a lot of "bad-arse" moments. Half-Life focuses on never breaking from a gorgeous game. Everything is done from the perspective of Gordon Freeman. There is no character development because for all intents and purposes, the gamer IS the character, and they don't break from that feeling of immersion and inclusion into the game. The edge goes to whatever style you like more.
And yes I ran because soon after we left the library complex, I was seperated with a good dozen red dots all around me. I just kept hauling it since my ammo was very very low, and all I heard behind me was screaming lol.
In Halo 2 the flood was annoying....but in Halo 1, when you first encounter it...I liked it. Really gave the game a twist. With the sequel, it was like a given...but it added to making the universe seem bigger than the first game. Rather than just one isolated sci fi story, theres a lot going on and a lot of components...
Half life 2 was fun without a doubt, but I've liked the more traditional sci-fi commando stories better. Maybe because I'm also writing one, but that's besides the point.
Edit: As for Doom 3...heh, I don't want to be *that thrilled* thank you
In regards to Half-life 2...I actually got decent performance on my computer, which is in need of a new graphics card (couldn't even play Republic Commando on it...).

Halflife 2, you need to remember, is all about showing cool mechanics. Taking the gravity gun, pick up razor blades, and shoot people, cutting them in half. Turning on a bladed fan to have enemies run into it. It's all about showing you how cool a games physics can be. 130+ muscles in a face to be more real. jeez.
As far as hard goes...the "Legendary" setting on Halo 2 is sick. Harder by a great magnitude than Half-Life 2. I died countless times in Halo 2 Legendary, but I finally managed to beat the single player campaign on Legendary by myself. I felt like I had cured a disease or something. It was an experince. I beat the last 1/2 hour of Half-Life 2 without dying once. The charged-up grav gun was just a god-like weapon. It wasn't even a challenge.
But if you want hard...Master Ninja level on Ninja Gaiden Black. you will cry.
