One of the reasons I feel that Jedi get so much hate is that this MMORPG has only one seriously elite class. Most MMORPGs have several elite classes. This is my suggestion for a system that would allow for more then just jedi to be elite. I think the following proffesions should receive a revamp and be given a quest based system to achieve mastery of them. The revamp would make these classes on par with the math of 2.5 power level.
This idea would be fun for us, because then people would not have to become jedi when they had done everything else. It would add more content to the game, and balance out the proffession system.
Bounty Hunter: There were plenty of people trying to become Bounty hunters in the Star wars universe. But only the elite, a chosen few ever made it to the status of Boba Fett, IG88, Bossk and so on. I propose a system composed of grinding and quests to get the kind of training nessacary to join the elite of the Bounty hunters guild.
Commando: Commando should be the most elite of ranged proffesions. If all the ranged proffesions are soldiers in some way or another, the Commando should be the equivlent of the modern military's Navy Seals in comparision to normal infantry. Perhaps it could have a connection to the three different factions, with different perks to each one in the same way that Jedi are faction alinged. Why? The training of the Spets Nats(Russian Speacial Forces) Is definetly different then American or British Speacial forces. Neutrals would be Mercernaries, then you would see Rebel and Imperial versions. Grinding would be part of it, but as in real life, you have to do things to be proven ready to join the elite of any army. So quests would be in order.
A new melee class that basically is someone devoting their lives to the melee arts so as to quest to become the perfect martial arts master on par with Bruce Lee, or other legendary fighters. Quests to learn from new masters to acheive levels of skill. Along with grinding.
And perhaps a new class for crafters to take their crafting to the levels of inventing new items as opposed to only working on exsisting technology. This class would have content quests to find components and travel to distant planets to do research. This proffession could be bound to one of the other crafting proffessions that you choose to speacialize in. This proffession would be to acheive a legendary status in the way that people like Thomas Edison, and Albert Einstien did.
As opposed to contantly bickering about one proffession, we should consider just making more elite proffessions available. I think these could seriously enrich the game, and make character advancement a blend of content and grinding as opposed to just repetitive monster killing.

Ok, not to completely shoot down your idea... but if you put in more 'elite' classes, whats the reason for having the other classes at all?
If you make a set of classes that are 1.5/2.5/eleventybillion times better then the others, everyone who PvP's or wants to do high end PvE will pick up those classes only.
A better way will be to make each other profession appealing (and the SL revamp is a very good step in that direction), while making jedi not as appealing for the same things.

yeah i think elite classes would be better just because there are some people who dont want to be a jedi.

now im not saying that i dont want to but i dont have the time and patience to grind for jedi and its not as fun for me

and i think having other elite classes will make the game more fun for people like me

- I support a rollback and keeping & balancing the old combat system.
...and making SWG a better place to be.

Valid questions, Ash. Here's how I would deal with these issues:

GCW: This would almost certainly be the main area affected by the addition of "Legend" professions above Elite Master. At the moment, people can grind for a week and jump right into PvP with a finished template. Others can work at it over a longer period of time and come up with various enhanced armors and weapons that give them an edge in PvP. I can look at the idea in two ways: It can either be viewed as a time sink that delays a player's ability to become competitive in PvP, or it can be viewed as another method to elevate dedicated players above the run-of-the-mill crowd. I'd like to hear others' opinions on this. Which do you prefer: New ways to excel, or a level playing field attainable by all within a few days? Personally, I would always opt for new ways to excel.

Well put. Something to put them a notch above others becuase they put the time/experince into they're chosen profession. Like I said, my only concern is that these 'legends' would knock every other prof out of the PvP arena, but I think with forethough and proper handling it could be managed.

High-end dungeons: As players move to higher levels of ability, the challenges would have to grow with them. But part of the fun of enhancing your character is enjoying your improving ability to pwn formerly-unbeatable foes while moving on to new challenges. Anyone remember what it was like to kill your first bantha? Your first desert vesp? Your first rancor? Your first Nightsister? Your first gorax? I do.

True that feeling of growth and improvement is sorely lacking lately. Thats what IMO made some of preCU fighting fun. Knowing you picked up X new ability and that would allow you to kill Y monster that you couldnt before. Thats also why I think people work on jedi now, they 'feel' like they're getting something. Some 'reward' for all the work they did, since most other combat is so trivialized. The other combat professions dont seem to give you much for each new box you get.
Side note: Warcraft will be raising its level cap (from 60 to 70) with the release of its expansion (date unknown). It will be interesting to watch how the increase in player power effects the current 'high end' dungeons and quests.
And I still have SS of my first gorax kill (solo to boot!). Swordsman/tka defense stack was sooo uber

That raises a side issue, of why I hate the level-based damage/XP multiplier system (it forces us to not play the game anymore, but grind-grind-grind stupid cookie-cutter critters generated by mission terminals, in which creature skins are nothing more than placeholders for n number of hit points... but I digress). And yes, everyone will be grinding towards these new goals, but if the devs would just grow an ounce or two of horse sense and scrap the level-based damage/XP multiplier system, the game would become a GAME again, allowing players to gain XP while PLAYING THE GAME instead of running to stupid mission terminals for weeks and months on end for CL-80 "bantha-like objects" and "gurk-like objects."

Darn it, I digressed again.

I completely agree with all of this. The level system dumbs down so much of the combat its pretty sad.
Im tired of everything being a 'angry bag' with different skins. I liked having to change weapons when fighting mereks or arachne. Plus the level system screws crafters by making anything over level 5 or so insta-kill.
I remember going out and grinding pistol xp on dath. We just kinda walked across killing everything since back then everything would give decent xp. But now? Its a million times better to stay chained to a mission term, since you can garuntee you'll be getting good xp for each critter.

I had another idea when I realized that I had left out the Medical proffessions, of Bio Engineer becoming the elite of the medical proffessions, perhaps eventually making new body parts that functioned like cybernetics. I also like the idea of Droid engineer's being able to make cybernetics of their own.
