well you can try it, esp. when they really give you credit in the quests than with each profession you made.
I did 30 profs in 9 weeks and one day to unlock, but I had a pretty slow start the first 2 weeks.

Very unlikely you will do it in time, when pub10 is released you will have to quest for your fss - there is no release date set in stone yet.
But you will be credited for each profession you have mastered, so a good way for you would be now to do whatever professions you like to explore and then continue to unlock with the quest system when it goes live.
Try to get the best out of your current situation and be a bit patient, thats all.
I asked it on another thread. So you basically get the same credit for mastering professions, whether they are your holos or not. So even if I know Fencer is one of my holos (and I haven't done it), I can do TKM instead, and it would count the same towards reducing the amount of quests I'll need to do when Publish 10 comes out. Right?

Does anyone have a rought estimate on how long it takes to finish the trials from the moment the old man visits you to the second you can start your new character.
I don't want a Jedi, I just want the second character slot. Don't really want to give SOE anymore of my money.

All depends on if you have any free unlocks or not.
You still need to grind the 24 boxes of FS to even start the padawan trials (after you become padawan you can open a new slot)
So 1 phase = 3 weeks - you need 6
So if you can do the grind id say 18 weeks.

Was glowy on patch day, had mastered enough profs (12!) to unlock 5 trees, and enough xp stored to get one box in my final tree. Spent this last week grinding my ass off, and finally trained the last box in my last tree last night (about 2330 hrs LT)...
How freaking long do I have to wait now for the old man to come back to me? Or do I need to do something else?

It's only been a matter of hours. It takes a day or two for some people. The more important question: you got five unlocks with only 12 professions?! Lucky **edit**.

Yeah, I was a lucky bastid...It is an alt account that I did my four holos, then just kinda did the professions I wanted to do. Holos were: carbineer, entertainer, smuggler, ranger....All total I did those four, scout (as a prereq to ranger), marksman, medic, artisan, brawler, tka, commando, and pistoleer. I would love to know what my last prof would have been.

took me about 18 hours of game play
did nyms really fast, than did 3 corvettes with an expert who cleared them in 6 mins each ( nuteral rescue, nut destroy, and imperial destroy) than spent a little time doing the imp themepark.

You can do Jabbas themepark in one buff session if you only kill the target for each mission. Rebel themepark can be done in 2 buff sessions (there's a lot of traveling so less than 2 is not generally possible). I've never done Imperial theme park so I don't know on that one.
Nym's is a little less than one buff session (only 3 missions, but long travel times). The Warren, which is 2 badges, can easily be done in an hour if you have a leader with you that knows the maze.
