Something about those "old-schoo" hunters though... they didn't last too long in a fight.
On the contrary, out of the gate the class was extremely powerful. BH may not have had much in the way of defense, but neither did the other classes until publish 6 and it had loads of offense. There was no kd timer. That resulted in confusion shot- fire knockdown- eyeshot until dead for the /win while your opponent was flopping around on the ground. (Melee sucked back then with no CoB, slightly better defenses than ranged, and a 3m range that ensured all you got in a running fight was the out of range spam.) Which is why SoE nerfed BH into the ground (in typical SoE fashion) instead of fixing the broken classes that couldn't compete and fixing the bugs that allowed perma-kds.
While the money certainly wasn't very rewarding given the time expenditure and the bugs only served to have one pull their hair out on many occasions, there was a certain art and challenge to doing missions successfully. Catching your mark was far from a given -- it was a matter of how good you were at seeing where the mark was going and figuring out a cutoff point you could reach before or about the same time the mark did. Sometimes, it was just best to loiternear the starport until the mark got there. And those early marks were nasty with 10k hams and medium armor when the game was new enough that we all hadmediocre armor (or no armor) and weapons, foods were useless...
...aggroing animals, dragging them right next to a mark in a wall and using lightning cone to coax it out with the splash
...white marks
...marks in the middle of the ocean
...getting aggroed by other peoples' marks when coming back from a mission
...the bounty hunters' curse which assured you missed each and every transport and shuttle and had to wait the full ten minutes...
Ahh, memories. ![]()

You missed out in the good times we had as BH chatting in kaadara while we waited for the 10 min shuttle. Can't say I go to kadaara for my missions anyway, I used to but that was while I was grinding out investigation.
Jedi also had the ability to wear armor making your attacks seem like they werent doing much. Took about 20 something people from crafters to combat people to chase around my mark in theed and complete my first bounty. So this was more of a social profession before the CU?.....the solo work nowadays is the only thing I don't like about being b/h ......but at the same time it can be pretty cool when I'm in the right frame of mind.
I know that when I first started out as B/H I used to hunt with one of my guildies, both of us could attack the same mark....he hated me cos I had invest 1 and he only had novice b/h.....all his missions were waypoints from the informant, where on mine I used probe and seeker droids to find the marks. Then all of a sudden(think it was after publish 21) we got our usual duo out hunting...my informant would no longer deal with me, had to go back to the noob informant and no more droids untill I got invest2,and only one of us could hit the mark. Was a bit of a downer that day.
But I got used to the solo work after a while, and I wouldn't go back to more than one b/h chasing the same mark again.
AND TO BE MORE NEGATIVE: Hunting jedi nowadays is cake compared to what it used to be. If you are an old-timer, you know what I mean.

Gee and I thought I was a masochist having done this grind 4 times in the last year....
Seriously tho for your own sanity I think your time would be better spent mastering BH as it stands now and learning to use it properly. For a challenge why not complete every mission you take...I know so many people who drop missions on Dath because of the lack of travel facilities and large number of nasty agro mobs...I haven't dropped a single mission this time round and let me tell you a trip to the Dathomir boonies is a daunting prospect at cl22.
I started grinding Investigation for the first time about a week before JTL was released. Unfortunately living in the UK I didn't get it for about 3 weeks after that.... It was a horrible horrible grind especially when all the americans were using ships and I had to use shuttles ![]()

If you want the real experience, remember to delete every second mission just as you walk up to it, to simulate the double xp we get now. Of the 50% that are left, remember to delete 2/3 of them to represent white cons, trapped in buildings. Remember to wait 10 mins when you get to a shuttleport, then another 10 mins when you get to the space port. Only take missions on Yavin and Endor to simulate there being no player cities around at the time, and have yourself a 85 max damage scout blaster to simulate the uber weapons as well.
Dont bother with buffs/spice or armour either.
If I was you though, I would not bother.
Don't think I could put it any better.
I've never dropped a mission either.....even those ones on dat or Yavin that are 8 or 9ks from a shuttle port. I always get my man....except when he's a white con or just plain missing.
Eventhat one elite mark I got on yavin a while ago......stupid me hit an area attack by accident and got aggroed by a bunch of the local wildlife. Bacta shot went off just a little too late got up as soon as I got incapped....mark was still agro at that point and he put me back down immediately...but not before I tried to use a stim which got me back up as soon as I went down the second time only for my my mark to kick me in the shin and put me down again....oops....after a quick trip to the cloner some 6000m away.....I counted my blessings that it was out in the middle of yavins nowhere and that nobody had been around to witness my embarrasment. I went back and finished the mission. Didn't talk much to anyone for the rest of the day though..was feeling kinda rediculous for a while.
But.....despite the advice of some of the old pros here, I made my mind up a long time ago that I was going to do this......I don't have to be exactly true to the pre-cu days. just reasonably close.
I aint gonna bother with the 10 minute wait for the shuttle though.......would prolly take me 20 minutes or more to explain to anyone who asked why I was standing around so I'll pass on that.
