Should I wait for phase 3&4 ER (Range & Melee Def), to get the combat bonuses? Or get Jedi quicker and do Phase 1 & 2 ER (luck & vehicle)? How important is the range/melee def for anoob Jedi? I still have my respect token so I might be able to respect the phase 1&2 branches into the phase 3&4 branches at a later point.
Any advice?

You could be a Smuggler/Comamndo but I advise against it, since your basically super crowd control.
One thing I believe people are forgetting is if you use a Root, a KD, any type of that attack it is only meant to effect your main target.
That's right our Weapons AoEs are not suppose to include other effects. I mean there is no way when I use Firearm Strike with my PFT that I am suppose to be able to KD a clustered group of enemies and put a Flame DoT on them.
There is a lot broken with Commando. And I warn you all the Crowd Control, and mass Root Attacks will not last, since I bet once they fix AoEs to do whatever they do, mostly Splash Damage, I'm afraid we won't find ourselves much use for anything cause the States with your Special are not suppose to go with the AoE you already do.
Of course who knows when the Devs will fix things. A lot of states like Root are suppose to break as soon as your hit again. The Devs did not intend for you to Root people to the ground like with magical vines or something. The Ranged Root attacks are basically like shooting at someone's feet so that they have to stop moving for a bit. They aren't suppose to be glued to the ground.
Oh sorry off-topic rant.
But Smuggler seems to be the best thing for us right now. You can have any Combo with Commando, the sad thing is were always less effective then most other Combat Combos without Commando. And Melee is an utter waste with Commando, which I imagine you can not be fond of. Sadly Commando is not a "Power-Up" it's a Profession that needs another Ranged Combat Profession to actually do anything.

Actually, the good news is that the devs have stated that the purpose of the area attack on the weapons is to enhance crowd control abilities. A specific example they used was using a FT to apply stopping shot to a group. In there, admittedly odd view, commandos aren't damage, they are crowd control.

I'm sorry, but I really don't want to be Crowd Control. I thought we were going to be Damage Dealers.

I like MCommando/MBH for the CoB and DS defensive stack. Also, all the Heavy Weapons Defense makes you a nice Ranged Tank. BH gives you a knockdown and a bleed that are reliable. Sadly dizzy and stun from confusion shot are unreliable (kind of like our DoT). You also have enough skill points to go up a tree in something else and maybe some FS skills. Commando and BH are also two professions needed for busting bases. As for Jedi hunting, you aren't great although you can Tank decently if you happen to have your CoB and DS up. You may be able to compensate with tactics, really good equipment, and some luck. I would just stay away from anything over 170K or so. Of course now they're changing the BH/Jedi system so who knows anymore. Anyways, doesn't look like Bounty Hunting is what your into anymore. My advice is to grab one of those post CU character builders. Have fun

I'm afraid I'm not diciplined enough to look it up, but it was in one of the ra-ra threads on how great the upcomming CU was supposed to be. It may still be in the folder about the CU.

Well, if they nerf our area-crowd control abilities, I am done with commando for sure.
As for a ranged tank, I guess if I dropped a good chunk of BH for medic, that would help a lot.
Maybe give up two trees of BH for medic with one tree... would that be enough to be able to heal effectively?

wolf go 4/0/0/4 doc and then get attacks from rifleman/carbineers/or pistoleers doen't matter which, you can speedbuff yourself which makes you an insane damage dealer.

I have been a long time commando, even when it wasn't good for me (Hunting Jedi with BH 3000, Commando 0440 and TKM) and I have to say, I have loved it. But lately I find myself with less time to play (now am Master Commando/MBH/Smuggler) and hunting Jedi is an exercise in frustration due to exploits, grinding on Kashyyyk, etc. I like to do a lot of stuff on my own but also enjoy group hunts, quests and some group PvP.
I have been thinking of retemplating to TKM/MPikeman/Swordsman 0030 with a little medic and maybe master brawler. I just don't see any action on our commando issues and since the CU, Commando was the only ranged profession I really liked. Sadly, we still lag behind the rest in damage, we aren't great tanks, our broken AOE draws sooo much agro and there aren't really any good viable Commando/CM or Commando/Doc templates I have been able to come up with.
If you have any advice on a different commando template I could try please let me know, or any advice on using my current template that I could be missing, I would appretiate it.
I still have a respec left and I would prolly just grind out a new template and save my respec until Commando is good again.

I am thinking about switching from melee to ranged profs but i don't want to give up tkm (innate armor). I was thinking of either mastering pistoleer and investing the rest of my skills in smuggler, or maybe master smuggler and invest the rest in pistoleer. I am not going to do much pvping... probably none just wondering which prof i should master

Why not just go TKM/Smuggler first? It does work, believe it or not. It's not uber, but you don't sound like the type that needs to be uber to have fun. See my sig. I'm basicly TKM first, and I only use smuggler ranged skills when I really have to. IE: Killing Ancient Krayts... no way I can tank those, so I just pull out a pistol and kite like everybody else does. Not to mention it is kind of nice having those specials to slow stuff down, mezz, etc. when I really need to.
Although, if you really want to be a ranged profession, smuggler probably isn't the place to look.
