Thread: Guide to Jedi Template Analysis v1.2
Something I can chew on as I grind up my BH.
very nice work, you should inculde the many mixtures of temps out there as well to better help these BH's know what there up agaisnt and better fight them.
2 temps of manyout there is MLS MD 4x4x Healer, another is MLS MD 3xxxheal xxx2Enh. there are a few more of these cookie cutter temps that a lot of jedis use and it would beof great help defineing there weakness.
for example these 2 temps i just listed are have great defence and nice damage potenial but once you stick a root and snare on these guys you can very easly keep you distance from them snice they do not have force run, they will have to deppend on parawan cake to get within melee distance from you.

K thats a good idea, Ill add info on popular templates.
Guide to Jedi Template Analysis (v1.2)by mmaness
After Publish 20, recon became a much harder affair for BHs. This publish introduced the elimination of names on the BH terminals and a 3 day time limit on missions. Because of this, the recon BH is nearly extinct as he is no longer able to take the time to research his marks habits and playing times to his advantage, unless he had a large wealth of resources such as a dedicated group willing to research all Jedi on the server. One of the best things about recon was the ability to learn another jedi's template. Now recon is still possiblebut a lot tougher. Therefore it is very important for a modern Bounty Hunter to be able to be quick on his feet and adapt to a variety of templates.
The purpose of this guide is to teach the Bounty Hunter (and any other people who PvP against Jedi) to be able to quickly analyze an opponents template both during and after a fight. All of this information has been gathered through my many days of seeking out info on the forums and internet.

Common Templates (Basic Template Analysis)
Jedi skills point requirements are different than non-Jedi. Firstly, 24 skill points (sp) is required to become a Jedi. The novice box of each profession is 8 sp and the trees progress as follows 8-6-4-2. The master box requires 1 sp. Therefore to master a Jedi profession requires 89 sp. Here are the common options available to Jedi:
Double Master (202 sp)
+ 1 Novice and 2 full (4 box) trees
+ 2 Novice, a full tree, and 1 box in another tree
+ 2 Novice, a 3 box tree and a 2 box tree
Single Master (113 sp)
+ 4 Novice and 5 full trees
+ 3 Novice, 5 full trees, and a 1 box tree
+ 3 Novice, 4 full trees, a 2 box tree, and a 3 box tree
+ 2 Novice and 6 full trees
Dabbler
+ 5 Novice and 9 full trees
From this you can see that double master templates are the easiest to analyze as you can quickly see there master abilities plus the possibilities for additional skills are limited. Single Masters are much trickier as they have 4 additional professions to build off. Dabblers are the hardest but luckily not very common.
Now the following is a priority listing of the trees most likely taken in each profession (in future version of the guide I will provide more detail about each tree):
Lightsaber
x4xx (Two-Handed)
xxx4 (Techniques)
xx4x (Double-Bladed)
4xxx (One-Handed)
Defender
xx4x (Defense)
4xxx (Melee Defense)
x4xx (Ranged Defense)
xxx4 (Prenatural Defenses)
Enhancement (Actually probably the hardest to prioritize)
4xxx (Celerity)
x4xx (Protection)
xxx4 (Synergy)
xx4x (Resistance)
Healer
4xxx (Rejuvenation)
xx4x (Assist)
x4xx (Restoration)
xxx4 (Purification)
Powers
x4xx (Subjugate)
4xxx (Lightning)
xx4x (Diminish)
xxx4 (Psychokinesis)
It is good to have a basic idea of what Jedi tend to strive towards when picking templates especially in the early stages of template analysis. This will make your job a little easier but not as accurate. Once you learn about all the skills of Jedi your template analysis will be more accurate and you will be able to see a Jedi’s weaknesses faster.
The last tidbit of information in this section is a list of the 8 most common Jedi trees (IMO) and a brief description of its popularity:
1) Lightsaber x4xx (gives the Jedi Improved Power Attack, Improved Head Hit, and very importantly, Improved Saber Armor Break)
2) Lightsaber xxx4 (gives the Jedi a melee knockdown and a ranged lightsaber attack)
3) Healer 4xxx (gives the Jedi healing abilities through improved or advance force heal and force infusion, practically all templates rely on at least 1 box in this tree)
4) Defender xx4x (Improved Force Aura adds 500 Defense to a Jedi thus reducing damage by about 20% and increase the chance of a dodge)
5) Enhancement 4xxx (gives a combat speed buff and a movement speed buff plus a root attack)
6) Enhancement x4xx (gives the Jedi the ability to increase innate armor through the force armor ability)
7) Enhancement xxx4 (allows a Jedi to regain force quickly with meditate and channel and has a snare attack)
8) Powers x4xx (Force Cloak)
This is handy as it will give you a focus point to concentrate devising some strategy to defeat these skills. Since these are popular trees, people who understand these thoroughly will have an upper hand against most Jedi.
To recap, what you should have gained from the last two sections was an understanding of how to identify a Jedi’s mastered profession and a quick understanding of the most common template options. This should aid in how you strategize against these templates (strategy is up to the individual because of the multitude of different MBH templates).

Application and Conclusion
Now that you have all this theory, you need to know how it is useful to you. Here are two simple scenarios where this information could be applied:
1) You find a Jedi who is fighting in a group. You pay close attention to the Jedi in your combat log and look closely at his buffs. He is running force speed. During this time, you observe that he kds a bol with a saber throw (thus he is a MLS). He then stasis one of the bols (ahhhh, he is a Master Enhancer). He note that he runs a force infusion macro possibly and he heals himself for half of his health bar and applies force sap to the bol (thus he is 4x4x healer). In a few moments, you have just figured out his template!
2) You engage a Jedi in battle. It’s a very tough fight as she seems to have very high defenses and is hitting you hard with her lightsaber. You decide to run away as the fight doesn’t look good. You run away and notice she cloaks as you leave. You find a safe place and look at your combat log. You remember being knocked down quite often (hmmm maybe she’s MLS). You note that she used improved saber armor break and improved saber throw (good, she’s not MLS but at least ls x4x4). She also used force choke on various occasions (so she’s Master Powers). She had improved force aura on often (so at least xx4x defender). No other attacks were done outside of Powers and LS x4x4. You then look at the damage you did to her….. 240 dmg out of a possible 452. You use a calculator and realize that’s about 53% (so she is Master Defender, good thing I could see here armor mitigation because she never used Avoid Incap). You then note that that is 2 Masters, a Novice, and 2 full trees, thus she can’t have any other abilities. You see a weakness in her template, no healing (there are others, hehe it’s not that simple) and you decide to strike later.
This is how you can take advantage of this data to get the upper hand. There are other situation where you can use this information so I encourage you to find those ways. One other situation I’d like to see is for the bounty hunters of each server to take note of the templates of the jedi they face and share that information with other bounty hunters. This way we will be able to reverse the loss of recon because of Publish 20 and be able to fulfill our role as hunters.
In conclusion, this guide is here to help you to fulfill your desires of defeating Jedi. Do realize that this alone will not make you a bounty hunter to be feared. You need to learn your template and take full advantage of it. You will also need equipment, maybe not +25 Seas and the greatest gun ever, but at least decent guns, armor, food, and drink.Message Edited by mmaness on 08-11-2005 03:43 PM

Very very nice thread. This needs to be Stickied for all times, and people need to start posting more information as they get it so this guide becomes even more in depth. A few things in your post are a little off. enough to say you never saw them from the Jedi side of the ability. But over all. Very nice.
This is what BH need instead of fussing. This kinda knowledge about a mark will lead to many many more wins
