Thread: Jedi bounties

I have actually thought about the possibility that the Jedi Bounties purposfully just lip service to Lucas Licensing. What I am thinking is this:

"The Makers" of the game actually WANT Jedis to be around. Maybe even quite a lot. Their motivation is to sell games and they know that the desire to become Jedi will sell and maintain subscriptions.

However, Lucas Licensing does NOT want Jedis to be this plentiful due to continuity.

The result is the devs put in place "Jedi Bounties" and "TEFs" that they claim will keep the Jedi population down but they give no attention to the problems with the system.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not one of those that think everything they do is for money or that they shouldn't make money with this game or anything like that (I call those guys conspiricy theorists).

But, it's the only explination I can think of that addresses the lack of attention to the Jedi bounties.

thats just pure bullcrap, our droids MUST work, at least, on finding wich planet they are on.

if you ask some peeps yea blabla did you see that guy ? know his main ? wich guild ? you got a good chance that this guy will tell the guild the jedi is in, the minute later, the jedi log off, mission as well ... go poof.

our droids got to work.

FYI if the guy was a covert imp and is really a jedi hes at least a jedi knight because lower then that and they are all covert rebels, your gonna wanna bring friends if he is a knight.

-also i love that post about making us our own faction tied to the guild..that would be awesome.

-could have it where we can attack declared rebels or imps and get payouts dependant on rank.

-this would mean player bounties with no grief..you're overt you know the risks

Excellent idea! Make it for master bh only though and it would rule (and fix droids).

We need the droids, otherwise what was the use of the investigation tree?

I agree with this completely. I just didnt want to get flamed all to hell for suggesting it. heh

Anyways, here are my thoughts on hunting Jedi which pretty much echo yours:

Tools? Droids? Forget the tools. There are no tools. Its time to be a beat cop and go walk the street.

We should not have droids that make it as easy as running down an NPC mark. Now, granted, an NPC mark starts at one position and runs toward a city. It just as simple as setting up an intercepting vector and running him down. A player/jedi is not just going to run in a straight line. A few Jedi might be stupid enough to sit in one place and craft or something. But most of the time they are going to be moving in chaotic, but not totally unpredictable, patterns (humans are creatures of habit...and I exploited this fully playing a thief in UO).

With that being said, I think we need some sort of loose NPC intelligence. A starting point. Names of associates. A PA name.(These can be better and more reliable with more layers of theskill onion or even *gasp* faction standing with the Hutts/Jabba) Intelligence to assist...but not lead us by the hand like we are accustomed to with the droids.

The rest of the intel comes from in game. SOE wants us to group. SOE wants us to rely on each other. Fine. Then we rely on other players for intel, also. On my server, I am trying to set up an intelligence network where I am offering 100K for information successfully leading me to my Jedi Mark. Im using Entetainers (cantinas) and Doctors (med centers)...both high traffic-high visibility areas.

Part 2 of this involves the bounties themselves. Stop the timer and the logout bug now. Today. Not tomorrow. Right now. Before you *looks at the devs* pull one more Salsa Verde Dorito out of that bag....this better be fixed.

The logout bug is just ridiculous. I dont think anyone (even the Jedi) is disputing this. So take care of it. And there should be no time limit on these bounties. If we have to actually do the footwork (which truthfully is the way I want it) then you have to give us the time in which to work. I dont want to put hours into a case/mark only to have it expire (unless one of my fellow BHers put him on his backside )

Basically, I feel that the BHers are the checks and balances system to prevent SWG from turning into a free for all for Jedis. If the Jedis are allowed to progress unhindered....unhunted...then they will quickly become both numerous and powerful rendering the other character skills basically useless.

For me this is all an issue about balance. Yeah yeah I know its a cliche word but Im going to use it any way. We can't have it **edit** near impossible to hunt Jedis (no tools, logout bugs, etc.) and we cant have it too easy, either. One leads to an overpopulation of Jedis and the other leads to a complete slaughter on a daily basis. It should take some work (and luck) but not be nearly impossible, either.

This is just my two credits on the whole thing. And truthfully, Im the type of player that adapts to his environment so I dont care which way it goes (ridiculously easy or insanely difficult)....I, like everyone else, would just like some acknowledgement from the Devs on these issues as to whether or not they are bugs, intended features, etc.

-So you farmed holos so you could trash your main character by powerleveling 18 professions to unlock your FS slot only to have me standing over your dead toon. Sounds fun.-

Just a suggestion: Write a macro that does

/follow %jediName%;

/pause 05;

/ui action toolbarSlotXX:

While 'being a beat cop' and walking the streets, you may pass right by that jedi without ever noticing, especially if they are in a crowd. With this macro running, you have 1 more option to help you get that kill.

Ya ok!

Hmmm lets see, recall that guy from EP 1, what was his name...oh ya Darth Maul, dark Jedi, with force powers...and he used oh ya DROIDS to find his targets.

If droids are not meant to work then I guess Jedi are supposed to be able to log off and clear their BH missions, lose their TEF and have a mission fail after getting it and 1 hour going by...hell an hour is way too much time to locate 1 person anyways.

Actually, Jedi missions should never expire, untill they are deathblown. Why would they, would Darth Vader just say, ah what the hell, its been an hour, no confirmed death, maybe he isn't a Jedi anymore...ya thats it. Someone who is playing a Jedi should know the consquences and once he has gotten a BH mission against them they should relize they are hunted and keep a low profile. Lets not forget, this is a ROLE-PLAYING game. Anyone that opens a Jedi slot should really realize this since their characters above all will sufer the consequences if they do not play the role of the Jedi.

If people that have FSC's grief that they will lose their characters, blah blah blah, thats the price for having the character and not playing him/her like it is intented. Already they are crying about getting a TEF for using their LS in combat... Lets just think about that, in this game, only Jedi have LS, so why wouldn't they have a TEF for exposing who they are in public? The reason people are crying about this is because those that do it, are the powergamers that did their Holo grind to get to Jedi and feel they have the baddest PvP template there is. They did not remember the part about Jedi being hunted, and reclusive in this time of the GCW, so they grief. Play your character as intented and there would be no problems.

Has anyone heard anything from either a dev or a correspondent about the broken droids not tracking jedi's with bounties placed on them? Because meanwhile jedi are multiplying out there with no check or balance system in place and it's just stupid.

To be entirely honest, I expect there to me MULTIPLE Master Jedi out there before we have ANY control over it. They essentially only have to do 12 boxes of risky play to get to Master Master Jedi. Saber xp is the only risk to a jedi. All the rest you can craft away in your house with nothing other than a huge pile of resources and a lot of processor time.
