Thread: Survival exp
The survey thought is exactly right. Here is what i've been doing. I set up a survey for an element. then I sample and set up camp. Once every 20 mins you disband your camp and set up another. you will get 600 for basic camp and 800 for advanced camp (if you are alone). So try to find a spot where someone else is macro sampling, and set up on them. i've found a few place where i could get 3 people in my camp. That was until they took steel away from cor. Moral of the story is buy a good book.
Option 2. is to form a big group and hunt something nasty. everyone takes damage. you heal up for 10 mins or so and you get pretty much the same exp as the 20 min camp alone. Some times more. I dont know what the math is for extra people in a camp however. If you run in and out of your camp, you count as a visitor every time. i've run in and out 30 times it does not raise exp amount. however i've sat with 5 people for just few mins in a multi camp and gotten over 600 exp. I will be figuring this out soon via testing i hope.
When I was grinding survival, I would do the following:
1) Setup camps after I had done several missions to heal up, and to take care of any wounds. I was also working on medic at the time, so I would use that time to make my stims and woundpacks. That's also a great time to get your traps and other tents ready. As someone said earlier, camp while grinding survival xp.
2) Get in group hunts and setup tents when the group needs to rest. It won't take very long to get the max xp for the camp this way. It is annoying to do it this way at times. At least if you're with people who don't want to take the time to stop and rest very often so you can get your survival xp.
3)What I did for the entirety of box 4, and this was before we could grind to get xp, was just set up a camp, and then go off and do something else. Come back to setup a new one. You can also make a macro to setup a camp, and then wait for the camp to expire and disappear. (There's probably tutorials on this in the Scout forum).
I actually enjoyed the survival grind somewhat. It was kid of neat to slow down for a change and just enjoy the camp. It was downright boring at times, but I met a lot of new people that way who would stop in to rest up while they were grinding, or what not.
There are also afk macros to do it that involve having 50+ camps built ahead of time, sitting in your inventory, and having stim b's and novice medic skills, but no matter how you do it, it's gonna take some time.
Best way to get through it if you don't want to bore yourself to death from the grind is to join hunting groups and setup a camp every time you finish a lair, and every chance you get, that way it's a free ~300 or so xp every couple minutes and you still get more out of your time (ie: something other than wanting to kill yourself from boredom).
Good luck, however you do it...it's only a matter of time.
Edit: mind you, I did mine a long time ago, too. It's true that crafting camps gives survival xp now, but last I checked, the amount given is so small, it'll take just as long as any other method, if not longer. It's possible that has changed, though, I would check it out.
