Thread: Do jedi saber throws count as melee attacks or ranged attacks?
Sorry don't have the post count for the *edit* ability but just look at counter sniping 2 for example in rifleman:
Rilfe Defense +5- This mod improves your defensive skills while you have a rifle equipped.
Its scary that some people don't even know their own skills.

But do jedi saber throws count as melee attacks or ranged attacks? In other words, is it melee defense that helps against saber throws? Or is it ranged defense that helps against saber throws? If anyone knows the answer to this question for sure, please enlighten me. Thanks
as it is now its only depending on weapon YOU use, ie. if you use a rifle ONLY your ranged def will count, and if you use Sword ONLY melee def will count... did some testing on dis, think its a bug.. would be useless with ranged def in melee professions otherwise.

So taking in to account that saberthrow is a melee attack, this wouldmean that fire-arm strike is a ranged attack right?
Marksman 3xxx- x1xx-xx2x
Firearm Strike: This MELEE ATTACK with your ranged weapon is useful for close encounters.
Come on guys. These are basic skills.

I personally am not buying any AA/CAs until this is all sorted out... i.e. is it a bug... will it be fixed... or what...
Same goes for all the jedi that bought ranged CA/AAs they are essentially screwed now.
It's kinda clear, a little shadded maybe.
You take gun and fire a bolt of energy, that's a ranged weapon making a ranged attack
You use the gun as a club and strike someone, its a melee attack.
A saber is a melee weapon, it you throw it, it's still a melee attack.
If I threw a knife at you, it would be a melee attack.
But commn sense is not the way the game always works. But it makes sense, right?

Exactly....this melee/ranged defenses was SOE's big change for all defenses and now we find this out?
A rifleman should have because he needs melee defense and a swordsman should have because he needs ranged defense!

They DO have the melee defense and ranged defense... they are just collapsed into one...
Right now I am a master rifleman... so I want to find sea's that have ranged or rifle defense as I will be carrying a ranged or rifle weapon...
So those two numbers... range/rifle defense are against ranged attacks AND Melee...
The real question is... if this is intended why would a rifleman have melee defense mod in their skill tree? What master rifleman is realistically going to ever equip a melee weapon?
I actually wish we could get a read on whether this will stay this way or not... as I do not want to spend millions of credits on SEAs until we really know...
