Thread: Is it a POLICY VIOLATION to progress your character through an AFK MACRO??
Nope. If its a mechanic of the game and can be used to progress your charachter...use it.'

I think I stated this in another thread but I'll reiterate it here.... why do you all care so much? Is any of this harming you in any way shape or form? No, not at all. Entertainers do it, crafters do it. I can't say I'm all too fond of the way jedi do it, but that doesn't mean it bothers me so much I have to start a crusade to stop it. And I'll say it again, if there was an afk method to grind investigation, you better believe that many, if not most would jump on it fast.
We hunt jedi because it's our job (and even then in a roleplay sense only). It's supposed to promote fun. Anyone that jumps on these bandwagons take the BH vs jedi role way too personal.

I've been a major advocate of coming up with a solution to this. It does not involve recursive macros though. I think that recursive macros SHOULD stay in the game. I use them constantly, as do dancers, crafters, Jedi, etc. I'm advocating a change to the AFK system where currenlty a recursive macro is enough to keep a player online.
My point is that AFK players DO in fact hinder players in the game. What about new players who see an entertainer in the cantina? They have questions and 9 out of 10 entertainers are AFK? That's a large issue. AFK grinding seems to be a topic that is hot these days. While it's not technically "illegal" according to SOE, it provides an almost free ride for Jedi on the Rryatt Trails. What about AFK house sitting Jedi? This causes issues with BH's wasting time/credits only to find a mark that is truly AFK (not just in the house entertaing)
So the proposed "fix" to the AFK system is this - Leave recursive macros in the game. Change the AFK system triggers to ONLY recognize a physical keystroke or a mouse movement to reset the AFK timer and keep a player online. This is similar to Windows, where system processies will not keep the screen saver/stand by from activating.
This will NOT harm actively AT the keyboard players. PvE, PvP, grinding, crafting, buffing, prospecting, entertaining - all will not be affected. But it would force the AFK players offline after the predetermined amount of time. This will reduce server lag in high populated areas, ie no more spammers at Theed or Mining Outpost spawns. No more AFK grinding on the Rrryatt Trail. No more AFK dancers or buff doctors.
It WILL increase immersion by removing those things, AND it will make the game more social, being that players would be require to physically be at the keyboard during their play time.

good idea but easily bypassed by jamming one of your keys with something, so the key is being pressed all the time.

principle wise it still extremely lame no matter of its legality.
I agree. But the policy is very straightforward.
The thing is, it's not possible to AFK grind Invest. You have to be ATK to do it. It's not mindless, like spinning on a piket lair on Dantooine can be (set auto attack, go get a soda, read War and Peace, come back, lair still not dead yet).
Which means BHs should feel a bit superior. Well, those of them who don't forgo the Invest grind and try to blow bases on their way to MBH....

and the red names have posted repeatedly that this only applies to 3rd party programs / macros. see the holocron in game where it says you can use the ingame macro system to play afk all you want.

Grinding your entire template afk without ever having to worry about visibility because BH droids can't track you to Kashyyyk doesn't qualify as "abuse or exploiting" the game?
So if I am ATK than it isn't abuse or exploiting? I think not being able to track on Kashyyyk is the issue here. Seriously, would AFK play bother you as much if they were doing it on the outskirts of Kaderra?
And again, the worst part of Kashyyyk grinding happening again is that I am no longer an MBH. Man I loved getting those grinders. Imaginea mark always in the throes of combat, in one of 6 places, and often unresponsive to my attack. Bring it on!

Concerns 3rd party macros or programs and the distribution of such. does not concern the in game macro system.
Doesn't matter now anyway, in three weeks youw ill not be hunting Jedi anymore, and so it will no longer be for you to worry about.
