is there any significant xp gain between a 1/x/x/x BH and a 0/x/x/x?

No. Do not train in the first box until you have enough xp for the 1 and 2nd box. Once you get the 2nd box you can just slice bases and be done with it alot easier.

the answer is yes...lvl 1 missions pay much more exp than 0
however, the RATE at which you gain xp between the two is much larger at 0 than 1.
for example, right now i am 11x2 bh (i know i'm dumb, but i like to actually hunt and not just follow wp's:smileywink
at lvl 0 i was getting around 105xp every mission that took me about 5 min (unless i couldn't get a decent mission; location, middle of water, ect). at lvl 1 i get around 310/mission and it takes me about 15-20 min depending on if my stupid droids get hit by meteors or not...
so doing the math, in a2 hour buff period (assuming you need music buff)you would gain:
-2520 with the lvl 0 missions
-1860 with the lvl 1 missions
so if your dead set on getting to hunt jedi asap then don't train till 10k, then slice terminals for the other investigate xp

Jamming uplinks in faction bases are excellent, 1000 xp per base you jam... need to be investigation II though, but grind that up and do the rest with faction bases, you'll be done in a snap

Yes, I was able to get from investigation II to III in one hour by jamming every known rebel pve base that didn't have turrets.

Make sure you've equipped your LLC while taking the inv missions, take the 6800 credit and up. Doing that will net you 135-40 inv xp per mission.

How do you recognise the missions that are less than 500m away?? Is it only trial and error?

It's all trial and error. You keep on cycling back and forth between the terminal and the Spynet informant. Hit CTRL+V to see where the target is, if it is not good then abort the mission and select another one. The Terminal in CNET close to the Spynet Operative (centre of town) is perfect for this as you don't even have to move to target and interact with both the terminal and the spynet operative.
