This thread turned out far better than I had imagined. The response has been wonderful, even with the broken link. For those that cant link, the game is a real MMO desinged in China where players level up by mending socks and helpin old ladies home in the rain. The prize at the end is a digital download of Mao's Red book of communism.
The joke was not directed at jedi, but more to people that belive this game belongs only to themselves - those who think that a player bounty system cannot be incorporated unless it forces pvp on other players. There have been numerous posts on ideas for NGE player bounties that do not force pvp on anyone who doesnt pvp already or choose to be part of a bounty system. As well, many of these arent limiting bounties to jedi or even smuggler, but to all professions, but the trolls still feel the need to show how arrogant they are in feeling they represent the whole community. No post NGE bounty system proposed in any of these forums has any kind of forced pvp, and actually most of them are viable solutions to prevent anyone from feeling greifed.
Dont let anyone fool you, bounty hunters losing player bounties is a setback to one of the greatest ideas incorporated into a MMO yet. It broadens the scope of what pvp combat could be, and breaks the monotony of a stagnant GCW. Even pve professions rely on player interaction in some form or another. Imagine if crafters were told that they could no longer sell their wares to other players because it wasnt fair to everyone? You could only craft useless trinkets and sell to npc's? That would be considereed removing content for your profession, but because our profession is combat oriented we get griefed in the forums by trolls and in game by carebears, thus resulting in a profession altering nerf.
having one class be able ot set back the progress of another class was one of the most moronic design descisions ever. same with making an iconic class 'of peacekeepers' into the uber d00d pvp class.
it was a bad design, and it's gone. the game will be better because of it.
maybe some of you guys who constantly wank for bounties to come back should actually read some red name posts about the pvp missions and quests that are coming. full opt in 1 of 1 pvp system. but no, you all want to be able to attack someone who doesn;t want to pvp.
maybe you need to find a game that lets you play the way you want, since this one no longer does.
yes, you are 100% correct about these 2 points, but they were desinged to be 2 sides of the same coin. The uberness of jedi was countered by the fact that you were open to pvp at all times and risked losing your jedi's uberness. Bad idea, agreed, but I think they made a giant step forward by making jedi the same as everyone else and removed any xp loss penalty, regardless of whether its from a bh death or not.
I have no idea what you're trying to say here.
A generalization that does not apply to the majority of bounty hunters. In fact almost every single proposal for bringing back player bounties in the NGE forums has some kind of built in system to prevent those who do not pvp from being hunted.

Are you blind, retarded, illiterate...or all 3?
Every single proposed idea for player bounties includes something about it being "Opt In", so the potentially hunted knows exactly what they are getting into...and have a choice...hence, OPT IN...

re the red part:
a couple of weeks ago when the dev's were posting about the new ranger stuff, they mentioned new pvp missions and quests.
player A will get some object to deliver. player B will get a mission to kill player a and recover the object. this was mentioned in conjunciton with the steal skill which went to spies i think. but they also said there would be other types of PVP missions and PVP quests.
i think will be the replacement for pvp bounties. it still gives the 1 on 1 pvp, and is a fully opt in system. i will bet when you take the mission there is a big box that says 'you are going to have to pvp in this mission, are you sure?, no really, are you sure, no wanking when you die. are you compeltely sure?'. and you will probably have to type some code in like the destroy struct boxes
I see. Sorry for the confusion, I remember hearing about ideas like this being kicked around too, and I think it's a good idea. But theres always going to be someone who thinks that the content/reward/loot/whatever received from such missions should be available to all players whether they want to pvp or not. Then we're back to square one with the whole forced pvp debate. It doesnt matter what professions are involved, there will always be a conflict between pve vs pvp players. I really liked the fact that this game offered pvp content other than just the GCW. Its just a shame that the forums are full of ideas that would generate this kind of content for those who do enjoy pvp without alienating those who pve, its just that the whole idea has a sour taste to it for SOE because of all the negative attitudes it has created in the past.

note one bad apple ruins the buntch. i think it is fun to test your skills aginst jedi. i dont do it just to say haha i killed them or darn they killed me. it is hard to kill a jedi. so if you can do it SOLO that says something. this jedi vs bh thing was a way to keep the jedi secert. and not to have them just running around like they do now.

the jedi knew full well that they would lose xp if they got killed that was a risk they took you can not play that card because they knew full well what was in store. and all so in the older days if your jedi was killed that was it u started over. so for you to lose xp and then whiny about it is to bad to sad for the jedi because they knew full well of what they were infor before they ever took that part of the game. and if they didnt they had no busness being a jedi.
