Thread: Why do you think so many people like Boba Fett?
And also the "As you wish" reply, everyone else who speaks to vader is all "yes sir, no sir, please dont force choke me sir" and fett is more or less saying "yeah, whatever"
Also because of the mando armour and because slave 1 just looks nothing like any other ship in the film.
As far as EU goes though, that bit it the mandolrian armour where dengar is pulling an acid burned, half dead and comatose fett up through the sarlaac cavern with a rope and a part of the sarlaac is still alive. Dengar fumbles his gun while leaving fett dangling, fett catches it in mid air, shoots what's left of the sarlaac dead a few times, has a go at dengar for leaving him dangling on a rope, then slips back into unconsiousness, just class.

Boba Fett performs a valuable community service.
Face it, Han Solo was a deadbeat who never got around to paying someone he owed money to. After Yavin, SOLO HAD THE MONEY. He just didn't pay. Before that, Solo was incompetent. "Even I get boarded sometimes!" Gimme a break. If he had paid Jabba back, he wouldn't have had any problems.

I got to thinking about this after Leatherneck informed me that GL was so dismissive about the character. Well the wheels started turning in my head:
I think it's because when we see Boba he is usually surrounded by characters of power. Like when Solo walks into the the meeting room with Lando and who is there? Vader with Boba...in total control of the situation. Then when it came time to freeze Solo, Boba steps up to Vader and all but demands to be paid if Solo dies...stepping to Vader, come one, that's just badass.
Then there was the time before that when we see the Imperial Star destroyer dump it's trash before making the jump to lightspeed, Solo is docked on the side andhe is "having one of his moments with Leia", and they think everything is cool, they got away....but whats this? Slave I FTW, following Solo while Vader shoots half way across the galaxy in the other direction. When I first saw this (in the theaters), I was just like, "Oh hell no, that's wicked" (hey, it was the 80's).
Then we see him at Jabbas Palace...just standing around with Bossok, got paid and now relaxing. Up comes some other BH with a thermal det., threatens everyone in the place, and what does Boba do when it's all over? Does he get scared, no? Does he /cheer for the other BH (Leia), no? He does that "too cool for you" /nod. As if to say, "Yeah, that's cool, whatever, I could have killed you anytime I wanted to, but I just wanted to see what would happen because I'm bored.
Well, that's my take on it. People like powerful characters, but more then that, they like characters that are NOT afraid of the powerful characters. I mean really....Vader reassures Boba will be paid if Solo dies (like, dude, don't worry, the Empire will take care of you), but tells Lando to "shut up" everytime he changes the "deal".

What I think people like so much about Boba Fett is, apart of the appealing looks, what he says with his body language. He keeps himself surrounded by a mysterious aura, yet his bearing, his standing, tells you about a character living in a world "Hive of scum and villainy" style working in a job in which you hunt people for money, but doing it under some untold "hunter code of honor", some kind of BH complicity that shows in the nod he gives to the BHLeia is supposed to be.
This scene tells you that, like a good pro, he'd nod as fast as he'd draw his gun at you if you do the wrong thing. As I say, the way he nods, the way he stands in that scene, tells you of an old-fashioned errant knight. Also, the way he gets mixed with the trash the STD dumps tells you he´s a smart one and, although they don´t tell you, you assume he has some means and cards hiddenin his sleeve.
Under a more general view, it's the idea they give you that, as a bounty hunter, he has the skills and the gadgets to get the work done.

His Oscars and Knighthood were well deserved. I recently learned he got a nomination for his role as Obi.
