yea, but you get caluble experience killing NPC's while doing so, you get to rob them of there lunch money, plus you get faction.

I thought you had to clone every time you died. I couldn't afford 1k per death.

DiLune is right. You can either spend your time trying to get combat XP straight from grenades, or just start working on your elite profession. As you dive into your chosen elite you'll get higher CL, thus be able to take on higher mobs, thus get more combat XP. A wise man said "Grindign isn't a pleasure, it is a necessary evil." And in the vein of thought grind smart, not hard.
