Thread: Invisible Jedi?

Ok, I have had two missions over the last two days where I have tracked a mark to a waypoint, my droid is still tracking and updating to that same waypoint and the Jedi is invisible. Is this Force Cloak? Actually had the first Jedi ask me if I was their mark (while I was standing close to them) and the second one logged off while invisible. Both occassions I had been watching them while undercover for at least 5 mins (under cover) and they remained invisible. Is this a bug? Is it force cloak? And if it is force cloak, how long can they stay invisible and what can I do against this? Thanks

Also, does a Mark know at any time that I am coming for them (such as when I accept a mission)?

Hmm, so can they stay cloaked forever?

Force Cloak aka SOE Security Blanket. Not a thing you can do either.

they lose a certain amount of force for every npc/pc/pet/bike etc nearby...they'll drain a lot faster if you can get a mob or something near them. they can stay cloaked indefinately however if their force doesnt run out.

Jedi have told that unless its like 5 creatures all within 30 meters of them then they regenerate their force cost for cloak faster than they use it.

Aye. It's cloak. And while you're standing there, scratching your head and asking yourself where your mark is and what you can proactively do to pull them out of it, rest assured that your mark is in guildchat, laughing his butt off at you. "Kee kee kee!! What a noob! I'm standing right here in front of him, and he doesn't even have any idea! ROFL! HA HA HA HA! So... are there any good spin groups going?" Honestly, it's a travesty imho, but also a really nice example of something that "should" be in a "Star Wars" game, but really can't be effective in an MMORPG. I understand that there are some players who swear they want nothing to do with PVP as a jedi. They'd like to be quietly left alone grind out their toons so they can spend their remaining time in the game contemplating the nature of The Force. These players merely wish to be left alone and simply desire a mechanism that enables them to escape from the bloodthirsty bounty hunters that interrupt their grinding in a non-confrontational way. Cloak was introduced supposedly to appease this class of players. Does Forcecloak fit in with the jedi mythos? Absolutely. Does it make sense that a Jedi who finds himself cornered or senses a bounty hunter closing in on him would use cloak in order to beat a hasty retreat? Sure it does. And I guess that's fine. If I'm sneaking up on a padawan who is unable to defend himself from a Mummer Punk or Chunker Goon and he sees me and needs to cloak and get outta Dodge, I guess I can't blame him. I guess it's also my fault for being caught. Time to launch another droid and try to figure a way to close in on him again another time.

The part that's awful about this ability in an MMORPG is that it, like the Jedi Profession itself, is overused in all aspects of the game. In regular day-to-day bounty hunting, I find myself thwarted by cloak a LOT. It doesn't matter if I'm swooping in after them while they're grinding on bols or waiting in a starport for them. Evidently, there isn't very much they can't do while cloaked. And some see no reason whatsoever to ever not be cloaked. I took a mission a few nights ago and tracked my mark to Endor. I got lucky and caught a glimpse of my mark's AV-21 and examined it to see who it belonged to, and the owner was someone whom I know spends a lot of time at the DWB. I jumped on my BARC and raced to beat him there. On his way in, he actually invited me into his group! Now, I've been around a while, and I've got a fair number of successful missions under my belt... I knew I was going to have to be careful with this mark; I didn't just open fire on him because I'm pretty sure I would've lost very quickly. In reality, let's face it--even if I did manage to come close to winning, he'd simply /cloak and run off. I decided to join his group and wait for the right moment to strike. I'm not exaggerating here: He and I were down in the DWB for about four hours, and I never got a shot because he never came out of /cloak! Here, when I joined his group, I was ecstatic because I figured, being the tough dude that he was, that he'd be tanking the mobs while I provided ranged support. Of course, my plan was to wait until we were in a particularly bad situation and shoot him in that back and that may make me a jerk, but that's fodder for another discussion. The point here is that no matter who has told you what about cloak and its' Force pool costs, forget it. We were surrounded by NPC's the entire time, and this guy stayed cloaked for four straight hours! This particular individual earns his living by (you guessed it) crafting jetpacks. He basically lives in the DWB, cloaked. He decloaks every once-in-a-while to kill mobs and loot the parts. Then when he has everything he needs, he told me that it takes him about 10 minutes to run in and craft a jetpack that he'll turn around and sell on the forums for upwards of 75-80 million credits! I'm not really sure, but I kinda get the feeling that the DWB wasn't supposed to be a "cloaker-only" jetpack production facility.

In the GCW, I'm sure that just about anyone on either side can tell you quite a few stories about how they've been jumped by cloaked jedi. This isn't the "Obi-wan-style" sneaking around on the Death Star type of cloaking; This is more like invisible commando teams.Squads of five or more jedi, running around invisible, decloaking every once in a while for the 8 seconds it takes them to dice a member of the opposite faction before cloaking again. It's very out-of-hand, but it's here. Kind of like the Jedi profession. But I guess we'll just have to get used to it. The rumor is that SOE will be making changes to /cloak in order to "balance" it. I'm sure they will... someday. I'm not holding my breath. In the meantime, mate, just try to find your own way around foiling the cloakers. If you find some legitimate, reliable methods of bringing them out of cloak or at least staying out of sight long enough to avoid them seeing you until you're too close for them to cloak, please post here and let us know

you can also type /examine (jedi's name) and if the examine window pops up you know they are nearby. I had a fun night in theed with three seperate cloakers all laying in wait while I was overt. They would uncloak, root me, choke, and then start attacking. Once root wore off I would start in on them and they would run away and cloak again. It got old pretty quick, but at least they never got me. I even had one come after me, then run away and cloak when he knew he would lose. Meanwhile I was trying to friendly duel a guy, so we headed to the cloning center to duel and the same guy uncloaks while I am at half health and still starts to lose, runs away and cloaks. I think cloak has its place, but I find that most people who cloak that I run into, save a few, just suck at PvP.

i often read about bh sneaking up on their prey. I personally dont se how it can be done. i know 2 jedi, one who cloaks and runs at the sight of an unknowndot on the radr and the toher who just force runs. either way you cant sneak up on them because as soon as they see a dot. its sabers hidden away and running if it looks like a fight or just abusing the claok like the guys mentioned above in theed.

a rather simple and in my opinion much needed soulution is to use the bh/ jedi tef form the mission start so that bh are not visible on the radar . tbh a bh would most likely use some kind of scrambling equuipment in this situation anywayits not hunting at all when you cant stalk your prey undetected. you can crawl in the bushes all you want they know you are there and wont decloak/ come out of their hosue till you do.

i havent yet killed a jedi. iv never fought one who wasnt immense;y stronger than i am, so how am i supposed to catch them with their pants down with a 1/4 of a health bar when they see me coming on their radar form over a k away?

I would be fine with them doing away with the radar for anything more than getting to a waypoint. Don't show NPCs, don't show players, don't show mobs, just show the waypoint and nothing more.
