Thread: Is this an exploit?
Hello,
I was in the faction dungeon that has a bunch of dark trooper inside it, trying to get a holo. Well this jerk imp shows up and procedes to kill all the rebs who of course have tef's. Now mind you it is a pretty long walk to this dungeon, and an imp has nothing to gain for going out there excepts kicks from killing a bunch of other players, and making us have to walk all the way back. Well I had just gotten there and hadn't started fighting troopers yet, so I didn't have a tef, but he was waiting for me to attack a trooper so that he could attack me. Well I decide to throw an area poison in the room to weaken the troopers in the room with me so that i have a chance to survive the imminent fight I will have on my hands. Well he starts yelling that I'm using an exploit and that he is reporting me. Eventually we end up fighting, I killed him, but then the troopers killed me. But just as he died he said somebody had already responded to his ticket and that a csr would be watching me. Now I'm personally not going to believe a word this guy says, I can't believe his ticket got responded to so fast, but I also don't want to get my account suspended. I would love for poisons to work so that i can loot and get faction and xp for everything i poison but I always figured the faction that imp npcs didn't go aggro when i poisoned them kind of a consolation prize. Does anybody know is this really considered an exploit, do I really run the risk of getting suspended just because i throw some poison on some troopers and then wait a few ticks before attacking them?
Thanks.
You have nothing to worry about. The whole point of DOT is being able to poison someone/something, and then sit back while they wither away. Then u finish them off with ur pistol, and call it a day.I guarantee you the guy was just trying to rattle you. Never mind this rebel dood.

Its kind of a pseudo exploit, in that its a programming glitch, and depends on how far you let things go before attacking with a gun/pet. The troopers SHOULD attack you when you throw a poison at them. I personally would call it an exploit if you just sit there and wait for the troopers HAM to get almost Zero before attacking (Not to say I havnt done that myself :smileytongue![]()
As for the CSR, they cant do anything to you forit, as its a fault of SOE's buggy as hell code....
and just to clearifyfor everyone else, the specific thing he is being called on for is this:
Factioned NPC's that con yellow to you will NOT aggro you after applying disease/poison. Thus you could stand tip toe to them and continuosly apply poisons, and not get attacked. If you have a TEF, or are overt, then you WILL be aggroed after applying poison/disease.
Poisoning faction NPCs, especially in an effort to get holocrons, and not getting TEF'd while doing it is about EQUAL to using 3 ATSTs to farm holocrons, imo.
Is it an exploit?Probably. But haven't you been reading? Check out the people who have gotten thejedi character slots. Some of them (including the first) have been WELL known in using "questionable" game mechanics to progress as they have. --shrug-- Get yours while you can.
No way in a million years did that guy get a response that fast from a CSR. The Customer Service in this game is a joke. I have my beefs with some things here and there, but the lack of any good response time, interaction, or action from a CSR is one of the worst mistakes SOE has made regarding SWG. I've been harassed numerous times, /reported and filed a ticket. Not once have i gotten a response.
Buck up, head back to the dungeon, and poison anything that moves.
Does this still work? I picked up CM and mastered all but the crafting line last week. I've ALWAYS gotten agroed after throwing a poison, regardless of whether its faction npc, non faction npc, or any other mob.

Best to use the right terms. Damage refers to the white stuff that you "heal" with a stimpack or the /tenddamage command. We get no XP for that on pets.
Wounds are the black stuff on the bars that we heal with woundpacks or the /tendwound command. We DO get XP for that on pets.
Using a CM to wound a pet so you can get XP is pretty cheesy, IMHO, but I wouldn't call it an exploit. As in I do not think it is a bannable offense. I do not think it is an intentional game design, however, and I would not rely on it as a method of gaining XP, but at least it requires a couple of people to make the process doable so it doesn;t quite fit the priary mold of an exploit that the Dev team seems to try and concentrate on.
In all I would not be surprised if the XP from that method went way so I would not rely on it, but I don't think I would call it an exploit.
