Thread: Feign Death

OK, I don't know if this has been addressed before or even if it's related, but I'll relate what happened.

Yesterday I got feign death, but promptly forgot about it because I was never planning on going up the tree. Today I was running back to Coronet City and an aggro white con or some such thing attacked me.

I suddenly remembered I hadn't tried feign death yet and figured this would be an easy thing to try it on.

OH HO HO, no.

First of all (and I know this has been mentioned many times before but bear with me) I had to stop running to use it. So I'm standing there waitnig, not really doing bodyshot because I'm frantically typing "/feigndeath" "/feigndeath" and waiting for the "You cannot feign death while running" message to come up.

Well, another one spawned right next to him and they both started attacking me and just as I got to the end of my action bar, I managed to /feigndeath.

At the same time, I was incapped.

So I laid there, thinking, "Well, this is special." I got to the end of my incap time and ... nothing. The counter was stuck at 0.

So I thought perhaps that this had something to do with feign death. I was healing up, actually, which I thought was interesting, but I was lying there on the ground, not moving. I couldn't move, I was stuck.

Long story short, I tried several different things (relogging, having a friend stimpack me,/unstick) and finally an ingame CSR had to come and boot me out of my incap back into the game.

The thing is, I don't know if this had to do with feigndeath or if it was simply random chance that I got stuck incapped at the same time as I tried it for the first time. Now I'm scared of it. I finally got up the courage to tried it again later tonight ... and of course, the stupid "running" message came up and I didn't have enough time to get past it and I was surrounded by about 5 npcs and was incapped and then slain.

Grrrr.

Anyway, thoughts, anyone?

Sounds fun

Well from what you say that skill seems useless :\

This skill is invaluable on planets like Lok and Endor. There are so many reds around that deathblow.

I was doing a mission when I was suddenly attacked by this fast wolf thing (something stalker). It was obviously going to kill me fast. I hit FD, waited for it to leave then finished my mission. Without it, I would have been running back from the cloning station.

Also, in PvP if you run across a situation where you are outnumbered. Hit FD and drop. They can't DB you. Sure they can wait until you get back up...but I'm very patient

You can't be death blowed while in Feigh Death? Interesting...

did you try /stand after you finished your incap timer? it is useful because mobs cant deathblow you, i dont know about other players though. i've been incapped when attempting to feign death and have always been able to stand up when the timer was over. I wish that when you use feign death you get different system messages though, if i remember correctly the system still tells you you've been incapped even if you werent.

also, if you kneel and stand up again it should stop the "you cannot feign death while running" message. and incidentally, why can't we feign death while running?

Need an explanation for Feign Death? Here is what I do everytime I'm in trouble and need to bail.

1) Go Prone immediately
2) Hit my Feign Death Macro
3) Lie on the ground laughing at the thing that tried to kill me.
4) Hit my STAND macro when I decide I'm healthy enough to take on whatever aggro attacked me, if he's still there. (usually the aggro leaves far enough you can get up and run away)

If you go prone, you will NEVER see the "cannot feign death while running" problem. Yes, it is annoying, but it is a sure-fire way of doing feign death without the problem.

Rose- I have a question for you, when you were supposedly 'incapped', did you have a little head to the right of your HAM bars? I'm pretty sure you did...if you had put your mouse over this head, it would have said "Feign Death" and given a small explanation of the skill. It kind of looks like the Incap head that appears on to the left of your HAM bars when you get incapped. So if I'm right, that you really were 'feigning death', I'm sorry you had to go through several things including talking to a CSR to get helped. Allyou had to do was type /stand or hit your Stand macro and you wouldve been fine.

Despite all of the threads I have read here on how Feign Death is not worth it, I totally disagree. Feign Death has ALWAYS worked for me (used it at least 30 times) and I think it is a great skill. I dont think that it is 'in for a nerf' because of the fact that you sometimes forget to use it, or you hit it too late, yadda yadda. I've died a few times noticing at the last second that I needed to do Feign Death but did not. That was before I had panic shot though, hehe.

Hope that helps Rose.

I do have one question for other smugglers...Why do we have Feign Death Skill Points? What do they do? I've always succeeded in feigning death and as I said before thats at least 30 times. Seems kind of useless to me. Someone explain to me

i totally agree with you chem, feign death is now what mask scent used to be, it allows you to explore freely with little worry of being killed, and you dont get xp from using it so i dont see what needs to be nerfed.

Hmmm. I know what you're talking about, Chem, because yes, the little "feign death" icon was next to my HAM bars. I tried walking by using my mouse, tried moving with the keyboard, tried everything but /stand. I even made up an /unfeigndeath and it didn't work of course.

However, when I went to the chatroom, the csr suggested trying /activateclone because she thought I might be dead. I tried that and it said, "you cannot activate clone unless you are dead. You cannot activate clone while incapacitated." So it WAS telling me I was incapped ... And I really was incapped--I think the timing was just perfect so I got incapped and feigned death at the exact moment. I had the little incap timer and everything and when it reached 0, the timer never went away but just sat there.

But I will stop being scared of it and try it again.

Thank you.

Actually...that's the whole point of Feign Death...you can't be deathblown, they already think you're dead.

/macro playdead

/prone;

/pause X;

/say Aarrgh! You got me! Give my pistol to cousin LeRoy!;

/feigndeath

Determine if X=0 can work, else increment it til the macro functions. Test on kreetle til you get it right. Drag playdead to your toolbar. You can also get creative and add your own cheesy death message.
