Thread: Sampling Mutant Rancors
wow im so not even gonna try to read that um. mask scent jawa and a ranger (for camo) if you can find one.
hes a question tho, what critter has the strongest diseases and poision that we can sample , i wanted to sample a gdk since three disease is 200 wounds a tick but i fear that is out of the sampeling cap, so any feed back would be helpfull
I went sampling last night for the first time since i mastered BE. the Mutants were a pain. I manged to get about 10 mutant samples. MaskScent of course. if it gets broken, don't move till you can put it back up. +25 clothes. and jawa beer if you can find it. there was none on the bazaar in my entire galaxy. Walk a few step and stop. walk a few more. do that till you get close. Be buffed so you don't die, and have your vehicle out, so you can run to it jump on and take off when they argo. Try coming up behind them, and go for the ones that are farther apart from the group. Hope that helps you.

Sampling mutant rancors is tough, accept that. If you want to get mutant rancor samples, figure that you'll be spending a couple of hours on Dath to get a handful of samples, and be glad when you get 2-3. If you consider that too much work, then don't both going, it will just lead to frustration.
Ok, once you are in that sort of frame of mind, get explore 4 (or better), +25 mask scent clothing, jawa beer, and head out there.
The approach: Once you find some mutant rancors, park your bike 70m or so out. Realize that each MR has probably about a 60% chance of breaking your mask scent with each time they test it, so if you get 3-4 of them testing your mask scent, it's something along the lines of a freak accident if it holds. So if you can, try to choose an approach where only 1 or 2 max test your mask scent. I walk, I don't bother crawling, because I can make a cleaner getaway. Also you "get there" faster. When my mask scent breaks, I stop and freeze and wait to re-apply. About 75% of the time they'll come after me immediately, but that other 25% of the time they won't and I'll be able to continue once I re-apply mask scent.
The getaway: Have a good escape route planned. I've made a "mount" macro for my bike and I usually park it in kind of an easy place to reach, so when one is after me I can usually make a smooth getaway without using burst run (which is important because then you get tired and can't do it again). Also, dodging in and out of trees sometimes slows them down and confuses them. Another thing to consider is that sometimes you'll get lucky and one will chase you but the others won't. Once they "give up" they turn their back and head back. Sometimes there is an opportunity to re-mask and run back up behind him and get a quick sample or two. Doesn't always work, but I've done it before.
The sampling: you fail... a lot!... when sampling them. If you can down some food that helps with your mind it will benefit you greatly. The last thing you want is to be standing next to a mutant rancor waiting for your mind to recover.
Oh, sorry I forgot, I was supposed to use text this size, is this better? hehe

Well put Aurthur, I get 2 samples or so everyday on Dath... but I kill rancors all the time out there, so I run into mutants and the sampling is a good chnage for 30 minutes or so from the nromal mindless killing I do.
Master Scout makes all the difference to me. I have a Mask Scent shirt I can wear under armour, mask scent pants (so I only have to change one item when re-masking), Jawa beer. So my MS is 140+. Keep in mind that mobs are random, so with bad luck you will meet one that consistently breaks your MS at 100m. Sample fail rate is very very high, and usually I get one sample only (I gave up on one though after twelve fails in a row after which it aggro'd). I did meet a very nice one that gave me four or five samples.
