Thread: Sampling Mutant Rancors

Hi.

I got one simple question. How do I get to sample Mutant Rancors.

I had only one chance to do that, when I was projected from my bike right tothe rancor and my scent was masked (hopefully) so I stated to sample and failed and died. hehe

Well anyway, my point is that I can sample pretty everything Master BE can, except for Mutant Rancors, they can sniff me from 60m and aggro me at once! Eventhough I always wear scent masking shirt and I'm not running. Any ideas on how to aproach them? Should I walk? run? crowl? knock them out and then sample? Use jedi special force? Ask Yoda to help me?

I'd gladly listen to every suggestion.

Thanx in advance.

Welcome to being a Bioengineer. The muntants are insane trying to get to sample them. Get +25 maskscent clothes if you dont have already. Also get some jawa beer, and then it will still be hard. My biggest problem is keeping them from aggroing each other and then you have to wait till one dies to sample the other.

hes a question tho, what critter has the strongest diseases and poision that we can sample , i wanted to sample a gdk since three disease is 200 wounds a tick but i fear that is out of the sampeling cap, so any feed back would be helpfull

I went sampling last night for the first time since i mastered BE. the Mutants were a pain. I manged to get about 10 mutant samples. MaskScent of course. if it gets broken, don't move till you can put it back up. +25 clothes. and jawa beer if you can find it. there was none on the bazaar in my entire galaxy. Walk a few step and stop. walk a few more. do that till you get close. Be buffed so you don't die, and have your vehicle out, so you can run to it jump on and take off when they argo. Try coming up behind them, and go for the ones that are farther apart from the group. Hope that helps you.

Sampling mutant rancors is tough, accept that. If you want to get mutant rancor samples, figure that you'll be spending a couple of hours on Dath to get a handful of samples, and be glad when you get 2-3. If you consider that too much work, then don't both going, it will just lead to frustration.

Ok, once you are in that sort of frame of mind, get explore 4 (or better), +25 mask scent clothing, jawa beer, and head out there.

The approach: Once you find some mutant rancors, park your bike 70m or so out. Realize that each MR has probably about a 60% chance of breaking your mask scent with each time they test it, so if you get 3-4 of them testing your mask scent, it's something along the lines of a freak accident if it holds. So if you can, try to choose an approach where only 1 or 2 max test your mask scent. I walk, I don't bother crawling, because I can make a cleaner getaway. Also you "get there" faster. When my mask scent breaks, I stop and freeze and wait to re-apply. About 75% of the time they'll come after me immediately, but that other 25% of the time they won't and I'll be able to continue once I re-apply mask scent.

The getaway: Have a good escape route planned. I've made a "mount" macro for my bike and I usually park it in kind of an easy place to reach, so when one is after me I can usually make a smooth getaway without using burst run (which is important because then you get tired and can't do it again). Also, dodging in and out of trees sometimes slows them down and confuses them. Another thing to consider is that sometimes you'll get lucky and one will chase you but the others won't. Once they "give up" they turn their back and head back. Sometimes there is an opportunity to re-mask and run back up behind him and get a quick sample or two. Doesn't always work, but I've done it before.

The sampling: you fail... a lot!... when sampling them. If you can down some food that helps with your mind it will benefit you greatly. The last thing you want is to be standing next to a mutant rancor waiting for your mind to recover.

Oh, sorry I forgot, I was supposed to use text this size, is this better? hehe

Well put Aurthur, I get 2 samples or so everyday on Dath... but I kill rancors all the time out there, so I run into mutants and the sampling is a good chnage for 30 minutes or so from the nromal mindless killing I do.

Hi everyone,

I'm having a LOT of trouble getting close enough to mutant rancors to sample them. I've got as much maskscent as you can get without having master scout. In addition, I have +17 pants and a +13 shirt. I generally park 100m or so away and walk slowly up. Haven't got closer than 50m so far. Am I doing something wrong or is it just that hard?

Thanks!

no, they are meant to be this hard. try using jawa beer, the stuff i used was +17 and it stacks on top of clothing. a good trick i foundis to kill some of them and then sample the rest

Jawa beer is great and also try and pick one furthest from the group and sneak up behind it. If you come at them head on, they will almost always break scent. Then get ready to fail lots. I was sampling some the other day and an hour session got me 2 AA samples

Still I had alot of fun leading them into the Maloks and watching them fight it out. Also a nice way to get some meat.

Might want to start crawling at about 65m as well works much better than walking.

I always approach on bike so I can get away quickly if they break Mask Scent (MS). I have not found walking or crawling to make any difference at all (or to face front or back), but that certain distances make the difference. I pause at 64m, 40m, 16-20m and let them get used to the new scent among them. If there is a big group of them closely together, wait a bit and one of them will seperate after a while. Then try and get close to that one - five or more together will almost be guaranteed to break MS if you head for the heart of the group.

Master Scout makes all the difference to me. I have a Mask Scent shirt I can wear under armour, mask scent pants (so I only have to change one item when re-masking), Jawa beer. So my MS is 140+. Keep in mind that mobs are random, so with bad luck you will meet one that consistently breaks your MS at 100m. Sample fail rate is very very high, and usually I get one sample only (I gave up on one though after twelve fails in a row after which it aggro'd). I did meet a very nice one that gave me four or five samples.
