When taking a Faction Headquarters how many patterns does it take? How many missing pairs?

Thanks

I have been debating for the past week on what I should do for my combat profession. I have looked over the other threads similar to this question but I have came down to two at this point which are Fenceror Swordsman. So the questions I have for you guys include, Have you ever tried these two professions? If so what seem to be the differences? Are they both pretty much balanced in PvE and PvP? I would liketo be balanced but still maintain my elegance as a dancer. If you can offer any help or suggestionsplease do so! I am in a guild where I am currently the ONLY female so asking these "I'm so macho" guys is needless to say useless. They all just tell me to drop dancer and do both. I want to just choke them at that point LOL So I thought I would bring my question to my fellow dancers instead.

Thanks for all your helpin advance!

I dropped dancer for a few months and took up doctor and swordsman (back to dancer now after dropping swords). Swords were fun in PvE but I didn't do particularly well in PvP (but I think I'm just really not that good at it no matter the profession!) My alt character is a TKM and is now working on fencer. TKA is really fun! I think it really comes down to a matter of preference. With swords, you have a choice of kinetic and blast weapons, fencer kinetic and stun. Good luck!

Check <A HREF="http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=dancer&message.id=29417">here</A>for a more detailed discussion on dancer/combat combinations.

Not to derail your thread or anything, but have you considered not taking up any combat profession? I've been running a totally non-combat character since June, and I've had more fun than I ever had with my old pistoleer character. Apart from the great feeling you get by knowing that your character is getting ahead in the game without killing anyone or anything, you also get a big adrenaline rush whenever you get into a sticky situation, knowing that you have to get out of it without the aid of a weapon. It takes much more skill and guileto avoid combat than it does to accept it. Currently my character has over 25 badges and has mastered three professions without killing any creatures or other players. She has been targeted a number of times by thugs and murderers, but has never had to clone once. She has even done many of the Jabba's Palace theme park quests without killing anyone - and that's a real accomplishment. Killing things is the easy way to do these quests.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since June 2004, running one of the game's first completely nonviolent characters. Testing the limits of non-combat MMORPG play and trying to have fun into the bargain (although the developers make it difficult).

Combat is no longer compulsory.

Yeah I have considered no combat at all but I live on Dantooine and find it rather difficult to get along without it. I also use my combat profession to make money...currently my chef is making foods only for the guild and not much profit in that so I have to do some kind of combat.

And no worries I'm no good at PvP either but like to try from time to time.

I agree TKM is a blast but I've had it from the beginning and would just like a change of scenery but I hate guns! I tried rifleman and commando in the past I just couldn't handle it. I will be keeping the meditate line of TK besides I'm just so used to having it I couldn't live without it having to even give up my ID skills for this.

I've never played either Fencer or Swords, but from what I've gathered the main difference is that Fencer is good defensively but weaker on offense, and Swords are the other way around. So, it depends on your preferred style of play - are you more interested in kicking some butt but taking damage and wearing out your armor, or more interested in not being hit as often, but taking longer to dish out damage?

I have, however, played both of the ranged combat analogues to Fencer and Swords. For months I was a Master Pistoleer (lower damage, good defense) and loved it, but since pistols still arereally unbalancedI decided to switch toMaster Rifles (high damage, lower defense)for awhile to give that a try. I'd have to say that they're both a lot of fun in different ways. In these pre-combat revamp days though, dishing out damage seems to have more advantage right now... of course, now that NPC's are using specials again, having better defense isgetting prettyattractive...

I think it's really more about how you think you'd like to do PvE - basically a combat playstyle choice. If you're more into running cash missions, the Fencer'sdefenses can be nice when standing down 5 Jantas or Mokks... but then again, Swords get Blast damage with power hammers, and blast damage is the only vulnerability that higher-end Nightsisters have. There's give and take in all decisions, which is really how it's supposed to be.

I know this doesn't directlyhelp with the choice, but maybe it helps to get you thinking about what you'd like to do, and help guide your own decision based on how you'd like to play.

I've done both. Fencer, which I adore, is defensive while swords is offensive. I personally like the defenses the fencer gives. Swords, however, is harder hitting. That hammer can be awesome I don't pvp much but I do know people who pvp successfulywith both. I did some when I was master pistoleer/master fencer and was pretty good but stacked defenses were an advantage. In pve, I could tank with either one but burn through lairs a bit faster with swords on my own due to the harder hits.

Go into ctrl+s in-game, or use a char builder and check the defenses and skills of each and then decide for yourself what would be preferable to you. (Specials look great for both if you like watching the animation for that. ) I went with what would feel natural to me in rl to decide which is better for me. The curved seemed a more elegant weapon to me. I still dance with it even though I haven't done fencer in some time.

You might want to check out the boards for both. Read the stickies at the top and the posts to get a feel for opinions.

I"d say more but i'm pressed for time at the moment.

Good luck to you.

I think I'm going to end up going with fencer. The defenses are great and it looks a bit more feminine than swordsman. Iwant to be able to RP all my professions and I think that fencer and dancer go better together from that aspect. Tiaga said it best "If you're a dancer do fencer because you're light on your feet and if you're a musician do swordsman because we have to lug around all those heavy instruments" Thanks to all of you for all your help and suggestions!
