Hello -
My girl friends charactor just went master chef - I am thinking of going BE to help her start her chef business.
Would I need to go 0.4.0.4 (basically as many non-pet schematic and crafting points as I can get) or would I need to master BE in order to make really good BE supplies for her ?
Thanks in advance

as much as it pains me to say it...
experimentation on a SINGLE line of tissue effectiveness means that RESOURCE VALUES will matter more than mastery... if you're making chef tissues and can do without the schematics available at master, then despite the lack of BioE experimentation and crafting SEA's, you can probably trim some SP with 0404.
the good news is that when you see the light/catch the disease and make the run for master ANYWAY, DNA isn't too hard, and you'll have some craft xp to start the cloning line.

This is a really really really commonly asked question in the chef forum, because this is something that virtually all chefs ask themselves when working out their templates. I'd refer you to those threads over there.

When I first started the game, I joined the guild that my friends started. They asked me to be a chef for them I thought that was cool, so I did that, Then found out that I needed Addatives. SO... I did the 0-4-0-4 template with BE, and the max Broad Spectrum Nutrients (medium food addative) that I was able to get was a +80. I was still able to make Vasarian Brandy at around +400-410 with that, but that was with pretty good resources. Anyhow, Chef was Boring, The Barrels (reward for mastering) were broken and still are, they don't work. I was having more fun as BE anyway, so I dropped chef. I am now Master BE and have been for a while.
so, if you do the 0-4-0-4 template you aren' t going to be able to make the highest nutrients.

Just to add to old(ish) post...
Before I became a Master BE, I had a chef from my guild ask me to make him some BSN's for the Brandy he was making. I was 0-4-0-4 at the time and with really good resources and an amazing success, I was able to make an 84% bonus tissue. With the same resources and Master BE I was able to do 87% with an experimentation point to spare.

Yeah I was a chef 2/0/4/4 and BE 0/3/0/3 until last night on ahazi. I then realized that with BE taking up the medic + 1 tree skill and scout +1 tree skill thats 60 skill points right there +like 30 for BE..... as I wana be able to master Chef and a Combat and still keep a few merchant skills I had to drop BE, after all the money simple wasnt there if i couldnt master it.
So i'll be like many other chefs and have to go and buy their own nutrients...... however before I dropped it i made like a little over 1000 medium nutrients at 78 so I atleast have some +400 brandy for my self and to sell for a little whlie until I track down a BE who has good prices and is nice to buy from on a regular basis

Go master BE and enjoy the other aspects of the profession rather than just becoming a schematic Monkey. The BE pet crafting is the most interesting and challenging crafting system in the game. Something that shouldn't just be missed.
Also any serious chef would need to pair up with a MBE. Money is pretty easy to be had with those janta missions, so there isn't much point in doing chef half way and BE half way. Just go to one of the master-master chefs and buy their goods. Saving a little buy making your own when it isn't close to being as good as the masters on your server just doesn't make much sense. So either be serious about it or don't bother. I can see trying it out for a little while to see if you like it though. Still that is a lot of meat and resources to grind out just to try something out.
0/4/0/4 is doable for somethings, but in the end you either want that master or nothing at all.

Intelligent nanos, the most popular food additives, are in the master box. Since the most popular foods are "heavy", and the other heavy food additives are much more complicated and (to my understanding) considerably less useful, I expect you'd be missing quite a bit by being only 0404.

Buy an alt like 90% of the other chefs out there and master BE. When your alt BE can't keep up with your master chef you'll find you'll still need to buy additives. You'll appreciate the time and effort BE's put into crafting tissues a lot more.
I work with a chef who has an alt that is also a MBE. It cracks me up to talk animals with her. She has no clue at all about them.
