was rummaging through some old posts on swg.stratics and found this:

"6.28 If a group of players settles a town, will they be able to set up defenses for it?

Yes, you can build walls, turrets, minefields, etc., to defend your towns."

taken from the FAQ's Saturday May 26 2001 (and no, tha'ts not a typo)

me too /sigh
what's crazy is this was a feature promised before the launch of the game, so i know some semblance of the coding is there
it makes me wonder why they waited 5 months to impliment player cities in the first place

heh, I wish something like that exists too O.o

my guess would be that the info is from the initial plans, and has little to do with the current stuff. I could be wrong, but that's the best explanation I have

Can't do that on Tatooine though

There are lots of things that where "planned" back then that aren't even heard of today ... for cities you where supposed to have the ability to move structures around as mayor - this was officially canceld due to the "possible griefing" (I suspect it was rather a programming task the Devs were happy to cancel). There were thoughts about having a visible glowing line where the city boandry is and a pop-up showing the visitor how often /citywarn was used in this city so they could decide themselves to enter this dangerous place or not to (with this feature only the shortsightedness of the devs to not prevent PCs being built around important POIs would stand against the /citywarn feature since it would be consentual).

Not even speaking of player created mission, of underwater (NPC) cities and worlds orof the hutts as a faction ...

But SWG still has a long time to grow ... so maybe some of these things will be coming in future expansions

There are many many many manyunfulfilled promises/dreams that were originally put forth when the game launched and player cities were implemented.

The erosion of the GCW by SOEs lack of effort has seriously harmed player communities and the game as a whole --- -- Mayors continue to struggle to hold our communities together until the return of the GCW.

Was interested to see if jobs postings were coming up left, right and center after the CU at SOE, and it appears not (yet) but was interested to see this:

All I can say is wow. Thanks for the pointer. I kinda felt like this may have happened or would happen but this is the first evidence.
