Thread: Question about Combat Level

Could someone explain why the Bio Engineering profession got left out of the Combat level loop? Trying to DNA sample high level dangerous creatures and being a part of a base takedown team would certainly constitute combatin my mind? The little extra health you acquire with increase in combat levels would certainly be helpful.

I gave up. Less is good for me. I don't have to wait as long for my incap.

BE = Die, Die, Die, Die, do it agian.

Fight? Run? Why bother?

Die, Die, Die, Die, do it again.

They don't see BE as a full combat proff, they understand we have to risk our lives getting dna, they know we undewrtake base take downs, but as these are not actually player on player or player on mob combat and just 'consequential' combat, they will only give us reduced combat level, and we only got that after a fight

I didn't add that to be miserable or sarcastic. I'm serious, that's how my BE sample works. I wp a spawn and I sample untill I clone, go back and do it again untill I have enough samples to get 5 DNA templates because I expect exper failures.

I refuse to fight. I have a cl66 BE/ Ranger and I have a cl17 base BE. I prefer the cl 17 because Malkloks take him down in single blows. He gets samples faster. IMHO being killed isn't your biggest obstacle. I have seen Odap run 4, 5 & 6 blue bars dry with 'you failed to find a viable sample'. Your sample ratio on cl75 is about 5%. They will come in globs where you get 3 or 4 in a row, then you will get none for a half an hour. Clone trips reset the ritual and if I can clone after I go through my sample spree, good. I am that much closer to the next one.

Group with a level 80 ... mask scent clothes ... jawa beer ...

I'm all for the getting killed .... empty packs, clone and insure ... sample ... incap (note time of) ... sample ... incap .... sit down somewhere safe and go get a coffee for 10 minutes from the first incap if you are still inside 10 minutes. Rinse and repeat and trips to the cloner are reduced. Because I am lazy and don't like to leave a good sampling spot once I find one.

Hot chocolate (low-cal variety) also works well if you don't like coffee ...

Now - I was debating whether I should continue to wear armor or go for a suit of BE clothes with mask scent, terrain neg. and taming (my BE is also a CH) ... and this discussion made me realize ... I think i will try with just clothes and see how that compares to armor - staying alive longer isn't always preferable. Can't WAIT for the hotfix to design my clothes !!!

I'm also thinking to see if it's the time of waiting or the cloning that resets the clumps there - I'll report back on this now that I know to look for it.

Why wear armor? It just delays the inevitable. The faster I get incapped and out of combat the faster I can get back to sampling. I don't even carry a weapon. I'd be kidding myself if I thought it would do any good against the high level critters I tend to sample.

What about some Jedi and MBE?

My toon is currently a padawan with no skills at all in Jedi, just the FS stuff is all to do with crafting.

I was thinking of getting defender 4xxx and possibly another tree of something Jedi like to up my Combat level. Seems to be the best SP vs defenses I can get.

At padawan I already get +20 Jedi innate armor (lol took me a while to figure out why I was getting an armor reduction when being hit).

Does anyone know of an accurate CL calculator out there?

I know BE gets an armor cert, but to be honest, I don't even know what it is.

My BE is lvl 18, and I never bother wearing armor. I go to all the dangerous places to get dna. I sample all the hard to get stuff. I get killed once in a while. /shrug. My Be is an ithorian with a giant robe and a kewl hat. Both in day-glow orange so at least the hunters out there will not shoot me

If you really don't feel like getting killed, make yourself a macro for the following:get off bike / sample target / sit / pause (to regen your mind)/ stand / get on bike. Make sure the timing of your macro will put you on your bike before you finish sampling. That way when the critter aggros you, you have a chance to get away. Don't bother trying to get away when sampling big things thou. Malklocs hit me for 3200 or something like that. (lvl 18 < 3200 btw) This macro will save you some sanity by saving your mind.

I didn't take your post as miserable The frowny face was directed at the system, not you hon. I am a veteran player, and death is just a part of this game. I can die with the best of em and don't complain. I just think in a system that is supposed to be "balanced", the scales tip on the wrong directions. I know my complaint is old news, as I just took up BE again, first time post CU. I have done this profession 4 times now. I posted this more to add to the list for the developers. Bio-Engineer is certainly a combat profession, even if it weren't for the sampling risks, the base takedown .. the PvE content for harvesting should indicate the need for combat.

I do find this useful for mind loss during DNA sampling:

/sampleDNA;

/sit;

/pause 5;

/stand;

I regain my mind quickly with Accarragm and or Booster Blue and if they are going to attack, I'm usually standing by the time they do.
