Thread: How do I make these pets? BE lady needs help!

Hey, all! I've been a BE since Sept. 2004, I'm a master BE, but I just don't get how do make specific, detailed pets for some special orders. I didn't grind my profession totally; I learned along the way and took until January '05 to get to BE, so I do know some of what I'm doing. But I just don't get it all. I've scoured the forums for recipes for what exactly I'm looking for and haven't found what I need. Can y'all help me out with recipes or ideas for the following creatures that I have special orders for? Are they even possible? 'Cause I've tried....

1. Razor Cat: CL 60-70, 12k HAM, armor, 60 Kin, Intimidation and a complementing special ability

2. Woolamander: CL 60-70, HAM: highest possible, armor, very high kinetic AND energy, damage: high as possible, Stunning Strike and Intimidate

3. Two Woolamanders: CL 30-35, 10k HAM, armor, very high kinetic AND energy, damage: high as possible, Special Abilities: 2 each that work well on each pet and are a good combination for fighting as twins

4. Razor Cat: CL 19 or so, HAM: as high as possible, armor, 60 Kin, Special Abilities not specified in the order, so I'm assuming the guy is flexible on this.

If you've got the time, I would REALLY appreciate your help! I'm so frustrated....and I don't want to let my customers down. I've been trying so hard to get exactly what they want that I've burned myself out and thrown down my needles in disgust! You will earn this BE lady's never-ending gratitude! Thank you for your time.

Don't get disgusted, get smart! Here's a resource I think a lot of us use, the SWGCreatures DNA Lab:

http://www.swgcreatures.com/DNALab.asp

Use what it has as a guide. I've found a few errors in the DNA info and the data in the resulting templates is often off by 1%. Regardless, it's a HIGHLY useful tool.

Another place I continue to reference is the BE FAQ:

What's the minimum level on that skin again? Is that CL 10 skin aggressive?

I know I like to figure things out on my own so I'll just say this little bit more. Mutant Rancor can be both a friend and an enemy when it comes to high level pets. When it comes to low level CH pets with armor, make a non-CH super-tank and experiment just enough to give it armor.

Consider the possibility of doing a first combine to get a pet with the required specials and resists of the type you want (or effective, which can be overriden).

For pet 1, you'll need better resists than specified, you could manage that with a much lower CL. It's annoying when people want a high CL for no apparent reason...

Pet 2 is going to be impossible to control if the CH isn't master PLUS either Wookie or Taming clothes, you'd better let the person know ... it's likely to just take playing around.

Pet pair 3: now you'll really be able to use the specials combine ...if you can find a way to do it once, you can repeat it. Keep good notes. Special resists are always easier to work with, by the way ... simple math and no experimentation effects.

...has mastered the Pilot profession

It seems to me like you bit off a little more than you can chew with this order. You learn as much from failure as you do from success, so you just need to keep at it. It does help when you don't have a very large and challenging order hanging over your head however. Perhaps if you posted some of the things you tried, that didn't work, we could give you more specific help.

Anyway, here are some comments on your order:

1-2. For pets in this CL range, I'd recommend not trying to get too fancy about it. If a customer approached me with those requirements (and they do) I would turn them away. There are so few creatures we can sample in that range, that there really isn't much opportunity to get too fancy about specials, and resists and so forth. The way I do it is to present the customer with a couple "take-it-or-leave-it" options at CL 70ish, and then let them decide if that meets their needs or not. At lower levels, go for it, knock yourself out with customization possibilities, but not in this CL range.

I'd advise getting yourself some mutant rancor dna, and some other high level dna that may compliment it (things like merek harvester, bark mite burrower, frenzied graul, and young malkoloc plainswalker etc) and experiment with different combinations. Be conservative, start with 2 MR dna samples, and 3 other types of samples, don't experiment fully, and see where that takes you, then refine it. There is a good thread on this here

3. This one is a lot more do-able, but still not completely reasonable. At CL 35 you pretty much have to sacrifice either damage, or armor, or energy resists. If the customer wants all three, then what they want is a CL50+ creature, and it's up to you to tell them that. Make them tell you which of those they are willing to sacrifice to get it down to CL 35.

Armor, high kinetic, high energy narrows down the creatures you can use a lot. Try a search on www.swgcreatures.com with criteria like:

light armor >40% kinetic >30% energy < CL 75

And you'll see that the list of creatures you have to choose from is pretty small. My main advise is to avoid using any creatures with energy vulnerability in your combine, and don't use all of your experimentation points when experimenting, because you'll likely be using dna from creatures 20-30 CL's higher than the one you are making at CL 35. You may get some ideas here and here.

4. There is really only one "technique" to use when making a pet like this, and it involves stacking vulnerabilities against a merek harvester base. There's really not much to it, except that CL 19 is in the low range to get armor. Make sure you give your customer some grief for insisting on an armored CL 19 and charge them appropriately for it, lol. Here is a thread you'll find useful.

The advanced function on swgcreatures.com is invaluable. It allows you search for samplable animals within a certain level range. As Arthur said, you may want to get Mutant Rancor DNA. However they can be hard to find and even harder to sample. So if your luck runs out with them, try either finding Bark Mite Burrower Queen's (Endor) or Bull Rancor's (Dath) - they are both high levelled and should help bring the CL up. Remember to bring the level up, you will need as fewest vulnerabilities as possible and the highest damage possible.

Thank you all! You all rock...I could just cry with gratitude. Happy tears, of course!! I will follow the above advice for trying DNA, etc. and try to betterlet customers know what is reasonable, unreasonable, and what can be expected. I have a hard time saying 'no' to customers....and tend to drive myself crazy. (It's the Minnesota-nice in me! Which is a blessing and a bane!)

Once again thank you all so much for prompt replies and advice. I feel a great sense ofcamaradarie at this moment! I will be looking at this thread to see if anyone else wants to add their two cents. I will also post my results sometime in the future (if I don't bomb. hehehe).

XOXOXO to y'all.

It's great to have such helpful experts, kudos Arthur and others. I wish I had the motivation to get as knowledgable about the pet system as you are. For my "business" I tend to stick with tissues, since pets are so tricksome. Maybe someday, after I get all the Recyclers built, I can get focused on learning the ins and outs. I think I have the hardest part under my belt, I seem to be pretty good at sneaking up and getting DNA.
