Thread: Tissues work now? No, I'm afraid they don't

Just concluded a test with some guildmates, and it seems that one tissue does not work. The Ranged/Melee defense tissues proved to not do anything except add to your totals in the CTRL+C or in the skills window.

Using my BH, firing Advanced Crtical and Improved Leg shot, the damage was the exact same against an oponent wearing clothes with the tissues, and without the tissues.

Any chance that we can get this checked, and have others confirm it and also see if we can get this sent to the Corr?? I'm bugging it in game, but wanted to see if anyone else has had similar experiences.

Thank you all, and good night.

The RD/MD bonuses basically as far as i know are scored against your oponents acuracy and reduce his chane to hit you, they don't reduce damage but only the chance of your oponent actually hitting you, that's why you see no diference in numbers, they do work, but in such a way that it isdificult to see that they are working, plus i think the diference is such a small amount it doesn't show up unless you do a very long session of testing.

hrm... I see.

Just seemed that I hardly missed at all while testing, and even during a Necrosis run people weren't noticing any advantages to it. Perhaps I do need to do more testing, and see what if it's really a viable item to make.

I don't want to be making stuff for my guild, and also selling stuff that I'm not 100% confident in how it works, you know??

Thanks for the quick answers, and it does give me something to double check, and test more tomorrow.

In general, a higher Defense than your opponent's Accuracy should lower the damage taken (see Center of Being or Jedi Force Aura). However, the bonus that clothing gives you is rather low, so the effect is hard to see. Especially in PvP, you will not see a difference as the Accuracy of a player seems to be much higher in general compared to NPC's accuracy.

Melee/Ranged defence Affects how hard you are to hit, eg. how many times the attacker misses - increased with clothes. The defences do not reduce damage taken.

lol, well that's good to know. Care to share your extensive testing of them?

according to the devs, you're wrong.

acc increases damage.

def reduces damage.

at the extreme ranges of acc vs def (and with CL considerations), you'll see more misses.

all the data I've seen to date indicate that EITHER:

ranged/melee defense tissues don't work, flat out

OR

+25 ranged/melee defense is too low to see an effect from, meaning the tissues don't work.

First, I admit to trolling as I am not a BE. My experience has been that the defense tissues show little to no difference in damage or misses when tested at CL80. However, when used on a character that has lower defensive rating they *seem* to make a minor difference.

To illustrate: A TKM that has around 250 melee defense (the percieved soft cap for defense mods excluding CoB / Duelist / Aura) sees no change in damage or misses when putting on +25 melee def clothes. A Master Ranger that has 10 melee defense, sees a minor drop in damage and increase in misses.

I have not sat down and logged this data and I would submit that the best way to log whether the mods were working correctly would be to put a +25 melee/ranged defense tissue on a <CL10 character and log if they see a difference in hit/miss or damage.

Thanks for the update Lammergeier. So this effecitvely makes it so that those tissues are only going to be usefull for the lower level players, and not for the CL 80's?

I'll have to get one of my guildmates to try it out at a lower level, and see if it helps. I didn't really think that at the higher levels that +25 would really do much, but was kinda hoping it would. Although, on the plus side if it will help the lower level people, that's a bonus since we have a few crafters that get whooped on alot doing harvester runs. That extra defense just might save them.

Thanks for all the responses folks, and for others testing too.

I'm afraid that with CL-multiplied damage, a few points here and there won't shave much off a hit for 1k+... and recall that crafters/entertainers don't have the 3k health that CL80's do.

skillmods of ALL sorts are supposed to have a 'diminishing returns' effect now (since the devs removed the caps on skillmods... except for the +25 cap on clothing/SEA/etc)... a player with 100 melee/ranged defense will see more benefit from CoB/DuellistStance/Force Aura (which all add +250 to +500 defense) than a player with 300 melee/ranged defense... which isn't to say that 300 isn't better than 100... it just isn't three times better.

my concern, at least with melee/ranged defense, is that the tissues ARE working, but +25 isn't enough to see a statistical improvement... nor to justify the cost of making them.

as for other tissues (like myoflex)... case by case, but it seems a lot of them aren't working. if THAT is the case, then perhaps melee/ranged def tissues will turn out to be useful.
