Thread: The 'you can not sample DNA from that target' bug a workaround but you won't like it

I was able to consistently reproduce this bug today (and bugged it in game)...


You can get into this 'state' by trying to sample a corpse ... After that you will not be able to sample DNA ... nor will you be able to milk or even harvest from any further corpses killed the normal way.


The fix seems to be to die and to clone. I tried being incapped, i tried logging for 30 minutes and coming back, I tried also dying and being rezed. Only cloning fixed it.


I did NOT try to shuttle or go off - planet tho - that might have done it.


I was also put into this state when an animal aggro'd on me while i was trying to sample it and i was unable to damage it myself ... so my husband killed it for me. After that I was unable to sample also. I don't know why it happened that time and further experimentation on that note ceased b/c i ran out of game time.


So anyway .. advice from me is ...make sure you don't sample corpses - ie. go a bit more slowly before you hit the sample key in case the animal dies ... and if you do ... you can fix it by cloning...

I did some more testing on this and arriving back at the bantha lair mission I had been using before, I was unable to sampledna, harvest milk even after having CLONED. I was able to sample a nearby gorg that I had not tried to sample before tho.


I decided to get rid of the bantha lair and killed them all and blew up the lair. Then I tried to sampleDNA on a sevoort that i had failed to sample before. I was unable to - can not sample DNA from that target. So I wandered over to sample another type of animal that i had not sampled before. I found a womp rat and sucessfully sampled him. Went back to the sevorrt lair and tried to sample the OTHER sevoort that i had never touched. Could not. Went about 60 m away and found a wild mountain worrt and successfully sampled him. Went back to the sevorrt lair that i couldn't sample before and this time successfully sampled the DNA of both sevorrts.


So - what does this tell us? I'm not sure, if anything, but cloning does not always work to fix the bug.
