Thread: Is there any reason to continue as a BE ?
I have to agree with mira on this one . We did get some much needed attention recently and now that the "fad" BE's are dwindling we will be in very high demand once again there are only two things that tick me off atm MASK SCENT was stealth nerfed and that isn't cool at all we need to scream shout holler at whoever is responsible for getting it reversed .2 BE walmarts selling cl 70's for 100k and add/tissues for next to nothing granted ive cheked some ogf these out and the quality of there stuff is atrocios but they still irritate the hell outa me!!!! when i hear so and so is selling those for xxx my response is the same for all of them IM NOT WALMART followed imediatly by /addignorexxxxxx .
So dont give up on this class just yet at least i wouldnt its a money maker and a hell of alot of fun ![]()
Akelan brings up three good points we all know.
That said, look at all the profession boards and see how many have same or similar threads to this one and the others here about where BE is going.
It's called game maturity, and to date, the devs have been more interested in putting fluff contentin rather than creating a continuum for the game. Probably caused by the amount of dev efforts being put into the space expansion rather than in the game itself. Companies, for some reason, have this short term view, not realizing the long term loss will outweigh the gains made in space expansion.
Maintaining 34 professions requires dev resources and I don't buy the you got some love 3 months ago argument. If you can't handle 34 professions, then don't have them in the game.
Master CH since about week 3 after release. Master BE for about a month before the update. Master Scout, Ranger, and a good bit of crafting experience other than BE. I'm pretty well versed in just about anything other than the elite combat professions, which have never held too much interest for me, so I do have a basis for my opinions, though I understand why you might question it.
The BE "Fix" changed pet crafting significantly, but actually reduced the strength of the higher level creatures we can create. Those of you that had never had the opportunity to make or use a top-end BE creature before the patch would be very surprised to see just how difficult they are to match under the current crafting system. I'm not talking about the "good old days"; we have more flexibility in the crafting system, and it has improved our ability to make unique combinations, but it has come at a cost most of the current masters do not have a basis to appreciate. Yes, they made some fixes to the BE profession, but months have passed without fixing the problems they left unresolved and the new ones created with the changes.
As for the "BE Walmarts", you have an attitude issue you need to resolve. If they are keeping you from charging unreasonable prices for pets, then perhaps it is not their practices that need to be called into question. In my opinion, there are far too many BE's working on formula non-CH pets, most of which are unreasonable stat creatures that have been the main impetus for the pet-check nerfs that they now rant about, and selling them for 50-100K to haul in the credits.
Personally, I do not put a CL 30 or higher pet on my vendor without Armor 1 and 45% + Kinetic resists; a CL 35 without armor and 55% or higher is seriously flawed in my estimation, and I won't sell it. I don't sell a CL 10 that has over 3500 Health, nor do I sell one with 3x the health that it has for mind, though I know that is a tradeoff that can be made. The reputation for running away that BE pets are deservedly gaining of late is a direct result of their unbalanced stats, and a creature that is crafted to a much nearer balanced level and has a decent dependability and courage stat for it's CL performs much better in those instances.
I make pets and suppliments and tissues for people who know what they are looking for and value the quality that makes their own items better or gives them the behavior in the pets that they need. I don't charge high prices for them, though I am often tipped rather significantly for the work I do for these valued customers and friends, enough so that the costs of replacing the ruined Ubese armor and the insurance rates are pretty trivial.
The simple fact is that as it currently stands, BE is still far to badly broken a profession, and the lack of progress other than in well-publicized spurts with a "publish" shows an underlying weakness in the development, which is what we need to eventually see daylight.
Yup, we got a lot of attention months ago. Did it really fix the profession, or did it make one or two significant changes and leave the rest just as poorly implemented as ever? If your answer to that is the same as mine, I am still left with the initial question, which no one has as yet answered.

Who can answer it? If you're having fun being a BE, then log in and do it. If you're not, then don't. There are a few things you can try:
1. Quit the game.
2. Try another profession.
3. Play less, and then only with a purpose.
4. I've found that more interaction with guild and others makes for a better time.
I recently quite chef. After 5-6 months of Master Chef I just couldn't get turned on by trying to make a better butter roll. So, now I'm grinding BE.I'm not a profession jumper, but in time I'll tire of this profession, as well. And, in general, I'm playing much less. I still have a good time with the game, but find that unless I'm working towards a common purpose with guild or others that I lose interest pretty quickly. It isn't the end of the world to lose interest in a game.
After all, it's spring. Flowers are blooming, rabbits are rutting, and everywhere the thoughts of gaming geeks turn to love.
