Thread: Making money as a BE
I might as well say it, a holo told me to master BE. But Im not a typical hologrinder. I dont grind a profession, I take the time to play and learn it (except dancer, hated that
So back to my question: How to make money. I have allready tried offering some of my creations (BE creatures) om the Bazaar, and while that brings in some money, its barely enough to cover my travel expenses. I had hoped that I could avoid having a vendor. So the way I see it, I have two options. I could do special requests for pets, either CH or non-CH. I have seen some people here talking about how a good CL70 can be worth a million, but that does seem a little much. And in any case, it will be a long time before I get to a point where I can make those.
My other option is to start producing tissues for chefs and tailors. But even that would no doubt involve some type of orders from the buyer. And in any case, I am much more interested in the creature making part of BE then the tissue.
So I would like your thoughts on this issue.
If you dont want to invest skill points in even the basics of business then why should you have an easy ride making money selling things?
I may come accross as harsh here but should I be an effective combatant without investing the skill points? No, ofcourse not. Then why should you be an effective merchant without investing the skill points?
If you want to make money without putting in any effort, you need a vendor, otherwise you need to take the time to build up a reputation on the forums and in game as a really good bioengineer and only do custom orders.
Bio Engineers can make money in many different ways.. but most of them from a state of already being a master..
1) Pet stims always a CH looking for pet stims
2) Bio Engineered Pets low pet lvl high ham pets are usually the best
3) Food additives great for chefs.. and with the chef patch that came out food is deffinately a hot comatity right now..
4) Clothing Tapes Although most BE tapes are not great.. they can still be of use to some that need it.. still like them to add crafting tapes and so forth to this profession.. but hey

Im not saying I should have an easy time making money, nor am I saying that I expect to get rich quick (or even at all). The reason I would prefer not to get a vendor is because I have neither the time or energy to keep it stocked. And conterary to what Im sure you are thinking, I am not looking to make money to sponsor my next holo (BE is my last, and I have little interest in grinding at random). I just want to get by.
But while we're on the subject, do all BE run their own vendor(s)?

You do sound harsh, Nancy. A lot of us don't have 12 points to invest in doing a vendor and just plunking down a vendor doesn't get you any business. I don't need to 'invest' any skill points in weaponsmith to be a carbineer or rifleman. Yet crafting profs are forced to spend SP in merchant to sell what they make.
I lease a vendor from a friend, costs me 5%. Truth is, I made more selling lower level stuff on the bazaar for 6K. A good sampling run can easily get you six or eight pets to sell and volume on the bazaar is pretty good. There needs to be an online yellow pages for vendors.
I don't make tissues for sale, since to me that's jsut grinding -- no fun. What I do make I give to friends and guildmates in trade for other stuff like clothes, armor, and resources. Works well if you have the right group.
