So I usually just wander around Dantooine sampling DNA for various creatures until I get a full backpack, then head back to my workshop and start crafting (somewhat) random pets. I usually have a plan in mind for what my target pet is and I try various combinations to see what I can get. But I've been lax in keping track of what goes into my templates and how I experiment on them. I create a pet that comes out great, better than expected and then I can't remember how I made it -- I must be an idiot, lol.
I made a CL 28 Cu Pa that had 11.5k health, light armor and 37% kinetic resistance (plus several other resists), knockdown and ranged attack and 370-450 damage. After I saw that "great success" and saw the final stats I just about fell out of my chair. WOW. This pet was better than most of the CL 35-40 pets I have made from DNA from Dantooine creatures. (I don't know how good this pet is compared to what you guys have made, but it was hands down the best I have ever done in my short BE career.)
At least I can narrow down the list of DNA donor creatures to a handful. I would have gotten the light armor DNA from horned or vexed voritor lizards or from one of the thunes (don't recall exact name). I'm pretty sure I used it for Physique, Prowess and Aggression, and then I stuck something lower level in the mental and psych (maybe voritor dasher or huurton, GRRR! I can't remember). I only experimented once or twice on physique, whatever it took to get light armor back on the template.
I guess I can go back tonight and try these combines again, but this time I WILL WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING I DO, lol.

IMO this an essential part of a pet making BE. I created an excel spreadsheet that I can enter in all the stats of the dna I use and the stats of the final combine before and after experimentation and what the finnished pets stats have. Kinda creates a "at a glance" sheet. It's been more than helpful when I'm testing new combo's.

The swgcreatures page is great for doing research on your DNA without actually doing the combines, but I need a persistent way to record the actual crafting I've done. I'll probably do up a spreadsheet of some sort or some variety of printout/checklist I can fill in as I do my crafting.
Out of curiosity how good/bad is that CL28 pet I made that I listed in my original post? Is that above or below what people expect to get for that level? I haven't sold many pets yet, so I'm not realy sure what value a pet like this is to a CH. I know about the CL23/CL35 stuff for twins and triplets (those are the main CLs I'm trying to target). My CH can only handle CL24 right now, so this is gonna stay in the bag till then, as the best pet I've made so far I won't be selling it.

Well level 28 is sort of in between the two major categories of triplet/twin and I always try to get pet levels to a certain category. If its too low then I raise HAM/aggression, if its too high then i add resists/lower mind/lower aggression. I just like to squeeze to every little bit out of pets really.

True. But I'm on a 56k and I can write it out faster. Plus I can take my notes with me where ever I go. I'll admit I get some strange looks at work and social gatherings but it's all in the name of science.

*peers at the pretty cu pa*
*is feeling a bit insecure about her pretties she made earlier today while playing with fun bits of DNA she picked up on Endor during the hour she spent there*
First try
Second try
Third try
Fourth try
Of these four I like 2 and 4 the most ^^ And I actually managed to keep track of what I put in what.. and they're all first gens.
