It's been a long time. Chef revamp was it? And BE got a mini revamp with it. But that's been almost a year now, and no research. This leads me to what I dream will happen. When the geo cave came into the game, I thought, for sure, SRD would be introduced. No dice there. Then the corvette came out, and yet, nada. Here is something I'd like to see: an asteroid dungeon accessible from a ship. The asteroid would have a background story that it is inhabited by Kamino cloning apprentices and your job is to help them solve a cloning issue. This would be a puzzle to solve, or maybe something similar to DNA code matching during base raids... Whatever... This would be a quest, of sorts, but would have a well defined story, different outcomes (sort of like kotor quests), and unique creatures to sample. In the end, you speak to the head honcho of the cave, or Kamino scholar. He/she recognizes your abilities as a cloner, remarks to possibilities in becoming the first non-Kaminoan cloner to join their ranks (future unlockable profession - Kamino Cloner), and provides the research data. This would be in the form of a scroll like other schematics. It would be a one time use schematic and craftable in a factory run. Now you have a factory run fo secret research and on your way to make uber additives. But wait, is that it to the story? Possibly not. Maybe they recognize you on your return and give you other problems to solve. The dungeon would need to be instancedsince the devs would possibly put a loot box in there. And the unique creatures would be camped for the DNA.
An alternate approach would be a preventative measureagainst an overflow of SRD. Maybe the scholar would send you into a secret lab within the complex where only master BE's can enter it. Or send you to a planet in the game to meet with a NPC that'll provide the data. Maybe the story on him is he stole it from the empire and wants to prevent it from effecting the balance of power (soft of like Dr Vacca in the deadeye quest). If you're imperial, then he stole it from the rebels and bla bla bla.
No there is no talk of an unlockable profession for Kamino Cloner so don't even start. That's been something I've wished for since I discovered BE in the game. What would be different? It would be a pure cloning profession where you can sample the blood of high lvl npc's like nightsisters or cas vankoo on lok. Then mingle the samples to make a npc pet for people to have on their datapad (like faction pets). You couldcontrolits abilitieswhere it could work as an assistant to a crafter (+10 to experiment, say), or fight alongside a grinding carbineer (+10 to aiming while moving). Maybe it could act as a ranger and locate that spawn of BMBQ's on Endor, for example. It could be a surveyor and find a nice spawn area of a particular ingredient. I know... Wishful thinking. But at least I'm thinking, right?
Anyway, bring on the flames.

Well no, not nearly as hard as RIS. The idea I have would keep the puzzles and riddle clues inside the dungeon. Meanwhile, they would be solvable inside as well. But this would give crafters lacking combat skills an ability to do a big quest without needing to kill anything. Maybe it would reward the BE a badge..
...recognized by Kaminoans as an expert cloner.
or something to that effect.

I say make it as hard to get as the RIS quest and as hard to gather the resources to make as the RIS armor. If you make it too easy, it'll be too common. Make it hard so the price of any additives using the SRD will stay high.
But to go with what you said, I'm still looking for the SRD....I keep all sorts of disks and datapads in a pack...praying for the the DAY!

Personally I think it should be like the RIS quest. Only MBE's can even attempt to get the Data, and it's insanely hard to get. Perhaps a difficult quest to get the schematic, and the schematic itself requires many rare things - maybe loots such as the RIS, but maybe you need VHQ DNA from very rare creatures also...

I always thought it would be more like REing...theres a chance of running across a piece of KSE "secret research" while reverse engineering, you might get a chance to "run across" a piece of secret research while...um...crafting pets? It'd be too easy if it was crafting tissues...
well, maybe they'll drop like loot components, in 8 pieces, and you have to assemble them all
Honestly, for a one-use item that has just been speculated to double the efficacy of tissues, its not going to overpower anything THAT much. A loot-level-rarity item that will bump ONE bottle of brandy from +400 to +600 isnt going to become the new "must have for pvp" stun-composite/mind and doc buff/food/DOT weapon/etc
well, maybe they'll drop like loot components, in 8 pieces, and you have to assemble them all
