Bio Engineer Archive
Thread: I appologize for this Newb question.
However, I cannot find an answer to it.
Can BE's actually call, command and use their CL 10+ (to CL 50 even) pets that they clone? Or are Creature Handlers the only ones capable of using your cloned critters?
It would be a shame if only CH's could use your pets.
Thanks for the info.

Just CH's for over level 10, bro. I'd really like to see BE's gain the ability to train basic commands so our non-CH customers don't need to harrass CH's for training, but as of now we just sell the creatures sans any learned skills. Pets level 10 and under made by a BE are kosher for everybody though.
I dont agree with the BE getting skills likea CL, what I would like to see is something along the lines of increased datapad storage for pets so that we can stored ones to let them grow before selling them.
Sorry meant a CH nota CL. While i can see the benefit of being able to train the creature to attack and follow there is one flaw to that reasoning. A bioengineer has utterly no ability to 'train' anything. It's simply not part of our prequisites or current skills. Storage however is a very generic thing. It's not something you need to learn it's just something you can have which is why I suggest it since we are indeed pet retailers so we'd benefit nicely from being able to allow our pets to grow. It might even be possible for pets that a bio-engineer stores to have accelerated growth similar to some kind of technology we cna use. This would allow us to open a new market where people ask us to grow a pet for them faster than it would normally... for a fee of course ![]()
It's simply not in the bio-engineer's nature to train pets. We experiment and create, perhaps grow animals.. but any training should be done by a CH, thats their specialty, it's what they do.
When is the last time you heard of scientist teaching lab animals to stay? They don't, they keep them in cages/tanks/whatever so they CAN'T get away. A CH on the other hand would be teaching the animal to not WANT to get away.
A BE'd pet in our inventory, untamed, is like a caged animal. In order for us to be able to take them out and not have them run away, we need a CH to teach it to Stay put, Follow, etc...

On one hand, I'd like to beable to give people a full grown animal. This would enable us to make mounts that are readily teachable and sellable by the CH without them having to grow them.
On the other hand,I also think that Dolly had to be "grown" from infancy, so maybe having full grown pets just pop out from us doesn't make sense from a realism perspective. (not that realism matters much in an MMORPG)

What more valuable to the customerl.. a baby which knows attack and follow but needs around a week to mature to full effectiveness... or a mature pet which can be taken to any CH and tamed with attack within around 30 seconds and is at full effectiveness the second it's traded back?

Any movie that I have ever seen where some BE decides to make a new creature, the critter ends up so wild that no one can control him, and he ends up destroying Tokoyo or something.
<evil cackle>Now that would be a great ability. Go into an enemy town. Pull out a fair number of CL 75 Kimogilas, release them in rampage mode and hope you can out run them before they kill you. In this case them applies to both the enemies in the town and the kimo's you just released.</evil cackle>
I can see both sides and I don't think there is a right answer.
I can say, if a choice were given to me I'd take the commands over the storage space. I can grow one petfor saleand still have my mount or I can keep that extra slot empty and opt to sell trained babies. Either way the two commands are a bigger selling point to me because of the immediate usability of the animal.
