Thread: Non-master BEs Which skill trees do you concentrate on?
No point in BEing a BE if your not going all the way unless you want to just make petstim b's. But other than that you wont compete with the master be pets out there.
Not sure I agree with the "all or nothing" thing. I toiled for a couple months in the novice BE ranks and found that very rewarding. I will say one thing though, whatever you want to do, get all the boxes in the experimentation line. If you do that, you'll be able to make very good pets, or very good pet pharma/tissues.
2-0-4-4 is fine for making very good non-CH pets
0-4-0-4 is fine for making very good tissues for tailors
0-2-0-4 is fine for making good pet pharma that will make you tons of money (even as a master I only bother with pet stim-b's and pet vitality a's, both of which you get by box 2 in tissues).
Your best answer depends on what else you want to do with your character. What are some of your other professions? Some concepts that I've seen BEs use:
The Pharmacist/Ultra-Chef/Mega-Tailor: Ranks in Tissue and Engineering
The BeastMaster: Ranks in Cloning Engineering (will also need ranks in Sampling for best DNA, esp. post-patch) to supplement their Creature Handling
BE is really one of those professions that you have to max out to get the most out of (tissues, crafting ability, clone skins), but if your passions lie elsewhere (like you're primarily a tailor, then a BE), some of the mixing and matching is a nice complement.
Remember the three areas of interdependency for BEs: Creature Handlers, Tailors, and Chefs. Figure out which one you're going to focus on if you're a dabbler (no, there's nothing wrong with that) and go from there.
Good luck!

If you're going to make Clones, you'd want the full cloning tree, DNA sampling and experimentation...at which point you might as well just go all the way.
If you want to be an Expert Bio-Engineer (the title at the top of the Tissues line) it would be best to do Tissues and Techniques. The only tissues of note thatyou wouldn't be able to make would be:
- Pet Stim D's - no big loss, getting fish in quantity is like pulling hen's teeth
- Vitality Pack C's - they're kinda overkill anyway, and getting unknown radioactive in good quality is kin to getting fish
- Fear Release - I've never gotten much interest shown in this high-end Warcry/Intimidation tissue
- Tensile Resistance - This is the one it would hurt a little to lose. The Stun/Melee Defense high-end tissue is very, very popular
You'd also lose some points on the top for experimentation. But it'd be do-able. The best application of this 'dabbling' in Bio-Engineering would be for a Master Tailor/Master Artisan/Merchant 3-0-0-0. A template like that, with BE 0-4-0-4 would make you a pretty formidable Tailor. Master Tailor/Master Bio-Engineer/Merchant 3-0-0-0/Artisan 0-4-4-2 would let you make anything, sell yourself on the Planetary Map and have a smidge of Surveying skills.
I think doing BE/Tailor is probably the most common combo after BE/CH/Combat.
You can make a decent living at 0/3/0/4 just off pet-b's if you have good, relatively cheap access to advanced sub's or can create them yourself. Personally, if my BE wasn't a master doc I'd probably have ignored the stim market completely. There is also a decent market for the basic tailor tissues as well. Just need to talk to your local tailors.
As someone stated....to do quality clones, you're going to want at least 4/0/4/4 so you might as well just master anyway. Add in all of the upcoming changes, and I'm guessing the bulk of the pet market is going to be 'master only' regardless. They're likely to have a significant edge in that area.
