Thread: What does the DNA harvesting skill mod affect?
Not sure about the exact mechanics, but as you go up in DNA Sampling, the following does happen:
1 - Sample quality gets better. You start off getting low and below average quality samples at best. As you improve in the sampling tree, you'll start seeing average, above average and eventually high quality samples. At DNA Sampling IV, I never see below average and low quality samples, and most samples tend to be above average or high quality. Occasionally, you'll still see average quality.
2 - You'll be able to sample multiple times from the same creature. It's not unusual for a Sampling IV or Master to obtain 3 or 4 samples from said creature.
3 - Finally, you're less likely to kill the creature you're sampling. This is probably the only thing I don't care for, because it was fun being able to clear out a lair without doing any fighting. Basically, as you improve DNA Sampling, if you're the type that sampled a creature to death, you're probably going to have to deal with it attacking you at some point.
"yes , as best as I can tell a field scientist ,still fails, but rarely. as a matter of fact about the only time I fail is when I forget to un load my inventory."
...THANK GOD....

all these failures at DH 1 are slowly driving me insane
at least there's hope...
Mask Scent is a non-official requirement for Bio-Engineering. I'd been keeping most of the Entertainment first tier around in case I really can't stand the way the Cloning changes play out and decide to give up Bio-Engineering and get my Master Entertainer titleback. I'd given up all but the required Creature Harvesting of Scouting while on my way to Master Musician. After finally finding the door to the Cantina and stumbling out...I can't stand not having Mask Scent. When I'm outside a city, I use it constantly. And you just flat out can't sample from aggro critters without it, and those are going to be the ones that'll have the cool specials you'll want to sample. I can live without combat skills...but I can't live without Exploration. At the very least up to 2, and the higher the better.
Now I just need to remember to switch amongst sampling targets so I quit getting my arse eaten by the critters into whichI'm poking sterile cotton swabs.
Also...as a Master Bio-Engineer, I still do fail to get samples occassionally. I think the lowest quality sample I'm getting is Above Average.
This morning I was sampling some variant of voritor lizard (on Dantooine) that was giving me 599 Sampling xp. 'Course, they're very aggressive. I'm getting 150 Scouting xp for succeeding on my Mask Scent check, too. Scary beasts. Their DNA went into a Rancor template at about 46% experimental effectiveness to start off. Pig that I am, I'm drawing a complete blank on what they were called. Something that sounded permanently peeved, however.
599?!?!
I'm heading to dantooine now to do some "secret business", I think I'm gonna pay some voritors a visit!
Yes, I've sampled them too. Don't remember the name either, there are too many variants![]()
But here is one tip: just examine the Voritors you find, the ones that give almost 600xp are the ones that have medium armor.
