Thread: Sampling HAM affects DNA stats

When entering some values into swgcreatures today, I noticed how a kliknik queen I sampled had a hardiness that was 95 points higher than the previous entries. Perhaps luck I though.

Then I looked at a razor cat cub I sampled and the hardiness, dexterity and intellect were each 2-3 points less than the other. Looking at my screenshot I noticed its HAMs were very close and roughly followed the same trend.

So I compared a razor cat in my next screenshot that had low health, medium agility and high mind. Its sampled stats followed the exact same trend in roughly the same proportions. (363/413/430)

Has anyone noticed this before? I have never seen mention of it in FAQs or threads. If this is true we could weight our samples by finding a specimen that matches what we want in a final product. It would give us that much more control over the final outcome.

I plan on doing some testing now where I get the exact HAM of my target and compare that with the sample. I will report back later.

It makes sense that if those stats affect the HAM, then the reverse would be true for the DNA. In fact you can see this when sampling clones and making multi-gen pets. A clone with high health and low action and mind will have a higher Hardiness than Dexterity or Intellect.

Here are my results on random creatures. The HAM index is the appropriate HAM stat divided by hardiness, dexterity or intellect for purposes of comparison. Multiple samples are shown after one another.

Creature name - Quality / Quality ...
Health - hardiness (index) / hardiness (index) ...
Agility - dexterity (index) / dexterity (index) ...
Mind - intellect (index) / intellect (index) ...

Female forest slice hound - H / AA
715 - 42 (17.0) / 42 (17.0)
695 - 41 (17.0) / 44 (15.8)
717 - 48 (14.9) / 47 (15.3)

Bolle bol stomper - H
5840 - 333 (17.5)
6033 - 339 (17.8)
5407 - 307 (17.6)

Bolle bol stomper - H / H / H / AA
5109 - 291 (17.6) / 296 (17.2) / 293 (17.4) / 288 (17.7)
5617 - 318 (17.7) / 317 (17.7) / 320 (17.6) / 310 (18.1)
5681 - 327 (17.4) / 321 (17.7) / 327 (17.4) / 317 (17.9)

Roba runt - H / AA
4742 - 270 (17.6) / 269 (17.6)
4786 - 276 (17.3) / 270 (17.7)
4153 - 234 (17.7) / 237 (17.5)

Radient lantern bird - H / AA / AA
10896 - 610 (17.9) / 609 (17.9) / 608 (17.9)
09978 - 563 (17.7) / 555 (18.0) / 562 (17.8)
11110 - 622 (17.9) / 625 (17.8) / 619 (17.8)

Roba boar - H / AA
10295 - 576 (17.9) - 578 (17.8)
12001 - 673 (17.8) - 668 (18.0)
11976 - 671 (17.8) - 666 (18.0)

The exact hardiness, dexterity or intellect (HDI) stat is somewhat random. Nothing surprising there. In general, a better quality sample gives a better HDI than a lower quality one, however the ranges overlap enough that this is not always true. Unfortunately I never got a VHQ and an AA from the same creature so I could not compare those ranges...

In the case of very low level creatures such as the female forest slice hound (CL 10), there is a wide margin of error because the randomness in the HDI is larger than any correlation to HAM. (This may not be true in the reverse direction of making a pet, however the numbers are so close as to not have a significant difference for our needs.)

What the raw HAM compared to the HDI does show is that there is a direct correlation between the two. HDI is dependent upon the individual creature and not the base pre-spawn HAM (baby HAM * 10).

While I do not think this is an earth-shattering realization, it does give us one more way to tweak DNA to our needs. If you see a group of creatures you want, sample the ones whose HAM bars match what you would like to see in the final combine, be that high health and low mind, somewhat equivalent HAM bars or whatever.
