Thread: I can't sample Rancors!

I have noticed from the forums others can sample rancors. I'm unable to sample them without getting aggroed every time. I'm master Bio-E, whats up? I would like to make some high level creatures for my customers but can't get close to these guys. If anyone can help i would appreciate it.

What kind of rancors are we talking about here? There is a big difference. Some can be sampled pretty easily (Rancor, Rancor Youth) some are a bit more challenging (Bull Rancor) and the Mutant Rancor is sort of the pinnacle of dna sampling difficulty so it is hard. Expect many broken mask scents, many sampling failures, and many aggros for each sample you get. But many of the others (Enraged, Gnarled, and others) cannot be sampled (we can sample up to CL 75 only, check the CL in www.swgcreatures.com before spending a lot of time trying).

How much Exploration skill do you have? While you can get near aggressive mobs without it, it is unlikely to do so and not at all easy. If you want to sample from aggressive mobs with any kind of reliability you really need maskscent. Ideally you want at least Exploration 4 and some mask scent clothing to get good results. Master scout is even better. Also, walk, don't run. Running decreases your chance of getting spotted over walking, crawling is even better but painfully slow if you have no ranger skill.
Edit: Arthur makes a good point, I'm assuming straight cl 50 rancors. Mutant rancors are tough to get next to even with master scout and +25 from tissues. For those I always crawl into a group. Once, and if, I get in range, I cycle through the group taking one sample from each to try and reduce the risk of aggro.

I'm also having problem. I can't get close to one without them killing me. I'm 4-0-4-0 scout, with mask scent clothes, and drinking Jawa Beer ( laugh all you want 
). They break the mask scent at 60mtrs away. I got close to one and tried sampling him 6 times.. all failed. I had an empty backpack so I know thats not the problem. After 1 hr of trying and dieing I gave up. This started on Sunday for me. Oh and these were plain Rancors... I think its a bug. Just MHO.
