Thread: Maskscent required for sampling high level critters?

A BE friend of mine, with Exploration IV (Maskscent +70) keeps losing her maskscent when she tries to sample Enraged Rancors and Mutant Rancors. Even regular Rancors broke it easily.

How are you guys and gals getting around this? Higher Maskscent? Camo? Are they just maskscent proof?

I'm not sure about rancors because I haven't tried yet, but I bought some clothing with mask scent modifiers and it helps a lot.

Using +25 clothing, it takes me up to an hour to get in sampling ranged of a Mutant Rancor, then I just have the problem of failing & aggroing em 95% of the time

Enraged Rancors are as bad, but I have not once sampled one since the last patch, so I dont think you can.

It appears that to be a top-end BE, you aare going to needc Master Scout, plus BE clothes, or a ranger/get camo'd by a ranger :/

Im on the verge of dropping BE after 3 days trying to get Mutant Rancor DNA, in over 30hrs trying, Ive had 5 samples :/

I spent about 3 hours today on dathomir trying to get mutant rancor DNA

I ended up getting about 10 samples

5 samples made me a CL71 kimogila (ugh!)

5 samples made me a nice CL69 kimogila

enraged rancors and enraged bull rancors are over cl80, so they're unsampleable

I had a master ranger accompany me to dathomir to get these samples, and she camo'd me every second, lol

I HATE it when the rancors start fighting eachother!!!

Jedi are like ants in an ant farm, you watch them work and play, and if one is being bad, you squish them

All I have is exploration 4 and one wookie shoulderpad with +17. I can walk right up to Racor Youths and stick them. Gnarled Rancors agro 90% of the time on approach. And I can get to a mutant about 60% of the time if I have to approach from the front, and 80% of teh time if I can come at them from the rear.

My main trick is to drop to prone at about 45-50m and slide up until I'm 7-9m away. Then you just have to stand and go for it. The slow approach speed seems to really make a difference. The distances where they will usually agro are at 40m, 20m, and 10m. If your maskscent drops at any time, just stop and remask, then continue.
