The "pet check" code needs to be implemented at the time of the combine that creates the pet. No other possibility or excuse is really an acceptable process for creating the creatures. The developers and customer service have basicly given up on making a genuine profession of the BE, and declared themselves incapable of understanding the code they have created and implemented. Thunderheart's brush-off as well as the rather blatant attempt to plagarize the FAQ compiled through the efforts and creativity of the player community demonstrates this quite well.

The "pet check" is at best a bastardized attempt to place some type of control over the process, which has failed miserably. The inconsistancy of the results from the pet check, where a CL 10 with 10K health is acceptable but a CL 10 with 3k is not shows how poorly the check has been implemented. The "random element" that Thunderheart mentions seems to be implemented there, more than anywhere else in the process.

There is no reason that the check cannot or should not be implemented at the time of the final combine, and the resulting pet be "stable" at the level shown. There has been ample time to "adjust" any existing pet that has been created, and the check does not need to be used at this point on existing, tamed creatures. It is more than time for it to be added to the crafting process, when and only when any valid "check" should be done, and remove it from the "pet call" once and for all.

Creatures could be a significant augment to the immersiveness and the depth of the game, but they have been ignored to death by the FPS-happy development that considers SWG to be a PVP environment you can solo in when you are bored. Mounts have been a lame attempt at best, given nothing of any nature that would make them preferable to a vehicle in any context; no carrying capacity, no tracking or sensing abilities, no independant actions, in general none of the things that make real-life pets and working animals of significant and specialized use, to the point that they are frequently much better choices than vehicles and vastly outperform even the most sophisticated AI to date. (not basing the criteria on the performance of current robots, which are still the product of an infant science).

Bio Engineers should be creating specialized creatures, bred for stamina or hardiness as travel/pack beasts, intelligence as trackers, highly accurate scent senses for locating materials and desirable flora/creatures/resources, as well as guardians and hunters. As it is now, we are weaponsmiths and furniture makers with a limited use product and adjuncts to a couple of other professions (tailor and chef).

Many of these things cannot or will not garner the interest of the developers and management enough to ever see code or even concept, but the dreadful botch that is the "pet check" needs to be done away with as an in-game artifact, and if implemented at all, made part of the final combine so that the pet as produced stands as it is, and can be depended on to remain so by the BE and our customers. There is really no justification for any other process; no other classever has their product randomly nerfed at some future point.

The pet check needs to be removed, as part of this publish, even if none of the other fixes to the profession that are so direly needed are done.

I think this should be our number 1 concern everytime TH decides to ask us for another Top 5 list. Has anyone seen our Correspondent recently? I checked earlier and the last time he was even on the forums was a week ago.....
