I pulled BE for another holo... and soo far, i've managed to successfully sample 3 critters out of approximately 200 attempts... very low newb critters at that... What is wrong?

"Newb critters" as you called it is a realtive term. You should be sampling the stuff that frequently wanders around right outsidethe cities on starter planets until you get a level or two. Things like Durnis, Gubbers etc. Note that having mask scent will help you approach the creature without it running, and even if it does, you have to stay close to it once you begin sampling. So if you hit sample, and it starts running, follow it. There realy isnt much more to it. It will be a long grind thou. Have fun

unload your inventory, head to a starting planet, somewhere like corellia is good for the first two levels of DNA (Coronet etc) Mask Scent and then just sample. gotta keep up with your targets and keep within 15M of them.

Be sure to make room in your inventory. If you inventory is full, you'll get repeated failures with no error messages, no matter how high your level is, or how low the creature's level is.
I usually direct new BE's to the gnorts, flesh eating chubas, and diseased nunas around Theed. True newbies with no combat or defense skills at all might want to avoid capper spineflaps since they sometimes attack in a group.
Try to stay as close to the target as possible. Autofollow isn't usually close enough, but it will help you react when the creature moves.

Yep, maskscent and keep your inventory lower than 59. I've had sampling fail repeatedly with 59 items in inventory. Not all the time as far as I remember, but enough that I noticed it. I have noticed w/o mask scent I will fail about 3 times as much too.

I just finished my DNA Sampling tree. All I did was went to Coronet and sampled anything that moved. Mask Scent is a definate bonus. Only reason I went to coronet was for the training...there were 3 guys there selling CL70 Kimo's and they were flagged Master Bio Engineer so training would be easy to get. Best part...they were actually at their computer.

I completed DNA I & II buy using the sampling macro included in the BE FAQ. It didn't work much as an AFK macro but it did allow me to kinda sit back and let my player work. As suggested in the macro, get yourself a pet, if you don't have one already, pull him out and put him on guard. This way if the creature aggros your pet will assist you in attacking. The best place I found to run this macro was on Naboo, just south of Theed. There is an area with a huge lawn and a bridge that crosses the river. Thereis tons of "trash" that spawns there. Once I hit DNA III, I purchased mask-scent clothing, andI headed straight to Dantooine. I pulled piket missions and headed out and sampled them. This is two-fold. I sampled the pickets until they were dead, hit the lair, waited for the spawn, sampled those then destroyed the lair. This way i got roughly 9K for each mission, and at roughly 320xp per picket, I would pull usually better than 3K DNA xp per mission. The money came in handy to sustain my grind for the other skills. I finished BE in less than 2 weeks (and I was gone out of town for 4 days). BE is boring at first, just as any proffession is, but for me it's has been a lot of fun once I made it up to the higher lvl's. Nothing like the thrill of low-crawling up to a mutant rancor and sticking him with a needle. Although, I have found, you must let the rancors at least incap or kill you once in a while, it helps sustain their huge ego.
