Thread: I just can't do this!
Essentially, there are four types of products...
a. Pets
b. Pet stims/vitality packs
c. Tailor tissues
d. Chef additives
I found demand for all four lines. On Shadowfire, the later two are in high demand.
Compared to other crafting professions, BE is interesting because all of your product requires meat and so there is benefit to being a hunter as well as a crafter. The pet-creation process is also interesting, difficult to master and a completely unique game system. It too requires careful and sometimes dangerous field work to do well.
If you can't stand crafting, the profession will drive you nuts, as will many other professions. But if you can tolorate that part, I think you will find it to be an interesting profession. It is on my short list of possible professions to remaster should I ever open my FSCS.
Good luck with it!

To start, let me come clean......
.....I am a Hologrinder.
That being said all I've done thus far is combat professions, (except Entertainer) so therefore, combat is all I know. Before I started the game at launch I wanted to be a DE, but only got up to Engineering 4 when I started to realize how messed up that profession was, so I gave it up.
Well, now the good holo has told me to master Bio Engineer, and what I remember about crafting is..., well, it's kinda boring. There is no way in hades that I can grind my way through an Entire Crafting profession. I would go out of my mind with boredom and quit the game.
So, that being said I've decided to take the less expediant route, and actually play the profession. But upon making this decision I've realized I have no Idea how to properly play a BE. I'm not even too sure what their role is anymore. With the major CH nerfs I don't see to many pets running around any more, is business still good for you guys?
I suppose there is the reliance that chefs have on you, but I'm not too sure how that's fairing for you all either.
I would like to open up shop and do it the right way and maybe make a little money while working my way to master, but I'm not too sure if there is even a role for those BE's who are not quite at the mater level.
Any way, any pointers that anyone can give me on how to become an effective and successful BE would be much appreciated.
Hi Cyborg-Shoryuken and welocme to Bio-Engineering ![]()
I would suggest the following:
- Master an Elite combat profession (TKA or Riflemen are best)
- Get artisan survey 4 and novice merchant
- Place a vendor and drop Merchant and Business
- Get tissue tech and tissue engineering 4 under BE as soon as possible.
Gather tons of meat, mine lots of good flora and chem(the kinds depends on what you want to concentrate on. Look at the req. under your skill box window for your craftable wares).
The best BE wares to make are either pet stims, taylor mods, or chef ingrediants... the latter being in most demand.
Once you got a good business going (and enough resources stocked), you can drop artisan and master the scout profession.
Then start working your way up DNA sampling and cloning (m. scout and BE camo cloths help a lot when sampling aggro creatures).
In the end you should have made a nice little fortune ![]()
You can then choose to tweak out your templet for BE or move on to something else ![]()

I should clarify on the high lighted point 3 that when you drop merchant you keep your vendor... They might be changing that in the future though so use at your own risk ![]()

Star Wars: Just the way you always imagined it would be like to be told by a cube what you have to do. pheh
First of all, there is one schematic for mollusk. I'm not sure which. Secondly, I dont plan on using it until I"m master. By then I'll have loads of it.
Now. To get the quest, go to Anchorhead on Tatooine. Beneath the bridge, and next to a moisture vaporator stands a NPC. Go to him. Go kill a bounty hunter NPC (make sure you have a combat profession as he has 9k ham), then another mission is done. The third one is to deliver a bantha statue (don't ask, i didn't read the story behind it) and when you return, you get the schematic. I don't even think there was a payout.

Thanks everyone for the helpful info.
Question, where are you gettin these artisan-type quest from, like the aforementioned 'bantha stature' quest? Are they from the artisan terminals?
I posted my take a few days ago. Since I'm only 2-3-2-3, I had to find a way to make the grind a bit less boring. By coincidence, I opted to grab novice artisan and get engineering 3. This was because I wanted to finish the bantha statue quest so I could get the shellfish schematic. So, I got the schematic and popped out about 10 crates of the harvesters. Now that I can get shellfish, I stand in the water with my R2 droid nearby. My fishing pole is always equipped. I run a macro to continually use the tool every 6 seconds. While it's running (thus slowly filling my inventory with non-autostacked shellfish), I am grinding food additives in practice mode (while in the item selection menu, i'll consolidate all my shellfish into two stacks). After a while, my mind and action will be too low. So, I'll /dump my macro and begin fishing. Once my mind and action are back to full, I will filet all the fish and begin shellfish macro/BE grinding. I did techniques3 in about 3 hours doing this and couldn't believe how quickly it went. I wish I had thought of this when I hit novice, for I'd likely be master by now. I hope this works for you. And you don't need engineering 3 to use the harvesting tool, so search the bazaar galaxy wide for a shellfish harvester and go to town.
I'm saving the 2k of crustacean for a future chef in my guild. I'm sure that number will be larger once we secure one.
Warning: If you opt to use a shellfish harvesting macro like:
/ui Action toolbarSlot05;
/pause 6;
/ui Action toolbarSlot06;
Keep in mind that if you are deleting items from your inventory, you run the rish of the macro selecting the tool instead of the item you have highlighted. This will, in turn, destroy your harvester instead. Usually, using another tool would solve this problem (i have a crate of 5 in my backpack in case this happens). But, if the harvester was in the middle of searching when it was deleted, a system msg will come up saying you're already in the process of searching for shellfish. CSR's told me to wait for server restart to clear it. I logged off and waited 10 minutes. It worked after that. I'm assuming that the server fails to recognize the tool was destroyed, and then never getting the signal to complete the task. When you log off, all hooks about your activities gets cleared from memory. Back to the story at hand. When deleting shells if fish, ensure you read the warning before clicking okay. I lost 4 harvesters this way. My duh.
