Thread: BE Needs Hunting Advice...

I am a master BE and like many of you have had difficulty finding meat. I can usually make small runs but getting 20K of the same type of meat with my current template is difficult at best. I do offer a discounted price is the chef provides the meat after I explain that I cant easily get it. Some have the template power to acquire it some don't.

To help myself with this problem I have decided to (gulp) pay for a second character that has some decent skills to gather meat. I had been thinking about this anyway for a variety of reasons and want to know people's opinions on a good template for hunting. I here ranger is good, seen talk about rifleman, etc.

Anyone have a opinion on what sets of skills would help me accomplish my hunting and perhaps make me a stronger combat character as well ( I have mainly been a crafter in the game so far).

Thanks for any input!

Ranger is of limited usefulness, believe me. 90% of the skills in the ranger tree are completely useless. If you get 0-0-4-0 ranger you will increase each harvest by about 30% over hunting 4, which is sorta nice, but to get it you have to master scout and then spend 20 more skill points on top of that. Very questionable whether that is worthwhile or not.

Master Ranger

They can gather the most meat than anyone else.

As for Combat, go Brawler TKA, massive Damage quick kills.

Thanks for the responses..Perhaps Ranger with the harvesting line....

Any compliment to Ranger - Tracking line (to get harvest bonus)that people find works well to PVE and get meat?

Or is any other elite combat profession worthy?

The only line in Ranger that gives harvesting bonus is the tracking line. The others give terrain negotiation/conceal, camping, and trapping bonuses.

I went up the ranger tree for a while and found that the extra bonus to creature harvesting was negligible. Perhaps it would be worth the skill point investment if you could harvest twice as much as hunting 4, but it just isn't.

I would suggest making your second avatar a 0/0/0/4 Creature Handler, that way you can actually use the creatures you make as a BE (up to CL24), then get 4/0/0/4 Rifleman so you can snipe the big critters from behind your pet. With this template, you could just about kill any creature that drops good meat by yourself, short of enraged rancors. The cool thing is that you'll have A LOT of extra skill points to try other professions. Perhaps another crafting profession? Or master Creature Handler so you can control every pet you make.

Personally, I would minimize the amount of skill duplication between your two avatars. Meaning, since you already have Hunting IV as a BE, I would use the BE character as the hunter/rifleman/CH dabbler, and then shift all your artisan/merchant stuff to your second account. Don't even pick up scouting skills with your second account and make it a pure artisan/merchant.

This may sound like a cliche, but I suggest you taking up Teras Kasi Artist, Fencer, or Swordsman. All those professions do well with creatures. You can also defend yourself when going on a harvester run and getting aggro'd by reds. But, that's just my take.

Cliche, but perfect for harvesting.

MBE/TKMadd doctor buffs, Vasarian Brandy, Vegash (+30 harvest skill) and you can get loads of meat off Dathomir/Endor/Dantooine. If its on a lower planet you might not need the buffs (unless you have to have 'em to put on your armor)

I harvest the meat and flora and run the factory and my wife is the MBE and makes the schematics, I'm probably on the extreme end for harvesting (with Hunting III), but I pull about 10k Dathomirian Carnivore meat off rancors per HOUR.This isextreme because I carry around dizzy/stun/inimidation/blind state heals, cure poison and cure disease, so I can recover quickly from creature special attacks. Even when I get dizzy+KD by an enraged bull rancor I take marginal damage because I have 80% kinetic resist composite and full buffs.

My alt is a Master BE/TKA, and as Fellstaff said, gathering large quanities of meat can be done very, very rapidly...buffs, Brandy, etc. are definitely a necessity. I prefer to use 75% Ubese, since I feel the extra 5% from composite is negligible, especially compared to the extra HAM costs that composite requires. With buffs (I usually get a Mind buffs, although this isn't necessary, a group of Enraged Rancors won't even faze you, and I've even collected some good loot (biceps, etc.) off of any Nightsisters I ran across I've never tried the Vegash, though, but will certainly be doing so from now on. Good luck!

I am glad to know that my TKA BE template I am working on is good enough to solo rancors.... b/c once I hit master I will be re-opening my meat for hire contracts.... I was easily able to supply 30k stacks of meat when asked.... though nmow I am not able to b/c of my own time useage.

I've been considering redoing the combat side of my char too. Is TKA worth doing if you don't have the points to master it? I'm planning to dabble in the merchant tree, so I know I won't have enough points to full master any elite combat. If TKA wouldn't work so well without master, what's the best overall choice figuring I can do about half the boxes in a non-hybrid elite?
